Default How accurate is the miles to empty....

Just curious if anyone has tested or ran out of gas using the MILES TO EMPTY GAUGE. Is it accurate?

In my experience you can drive a few miles after hitting 0... I hear it's bad for the catalytic converter (or something like that) though. At the very least, I've never run out of gas before 0.

I've intentionally taken mine down to 4-7 mi remaining a couple of times trying to figure out how much reserve was actually available. I have a 36 gallon tank and both times I was only able to refill about 32 gallons of fuel. So, that leads me to believe there's about 4 gallons of reserve fuel.

I don't trust the dte. We were stopped in traffic on a steep grade. It was a detour that could not handle the traffic flow. We sat in that position for about 30 minutes.
When we stopped, my dte showed 180 miles. It gradually changed to over 300 miles to empty while sitting still.
I consider the dte a rough estimate.

This has been an issue for me on both my 2012 and 16'. On my last fill of 117 litres my gauge was at appx 3/16 tank and 36km til empty. The calculated Km/L was 7.19. So. Approx 5liters til reading 0. That gets me to 122 l leaving 14L remaining or approx 100km til vapours hope that helps.

Reserve is about 3.5 gallons. Lots of posts on this, how angle matters, and how you don't want it to run dry.
