Default hole in tailgate

15 xlt I have had it for a month when looking at the inside of the tailgate there is a hole in the upper plate I have the factory spray in bed liner. I am worried about water and dirt getting inside the tailgate is this a missing plug or all trucks have this?

sounds like the hole for the bed extender retention pin. Used when the bed extender is closed and in the rearward position.

The tailgate has holes way in the bottom to avoid any water retention.

No hole on mine, but then again I have a huge hole on the top of my tail gate that probably lets in a lot of water where the tail gate step is.

I noticed mine was that way last summer a short time after buying the truck. I asked the sales rep, he didn't know. The next time I needed to go by the dealer I walked the lot and saw that they all have it. Don't know what its for, though.
