Default High idle problem

I have a 2018 5.0 F150 XLT. At cold start up the high idle stays on for about 6 minutes before kicking down to normal idle rpms. I took it to the dealer today and was told that this is normal. Does anybody else have this high idle issue? Is it really normal?

How high is high? Mine has slightly higher RPM’s (maybe 1200-1300?) on cold start and after a few mins, drops to normal operating range. It’s done it consistently since new, so I’m on board with calling it ‘normal’ . Most vehicles do it to some degree.

Mine will run 1,500 or so for 5-10 seconds, then drop to 1,200 or so until the engine warms a little, then it drops down to 950 or so until fully warm. Similar to every other fuel injected vehicle.

An increase in RPM's on a cold start is definitely normal but up to 6 minutes is not normal. Should be no more than a full minute.

Yep. I haven't timed mine but it stays around 1000 for a few minutes at least.

I certainly feel better about it now that it seems more normal. I have an older Ford that doesn’t take nearly as long to come down on the idle. I guess newer technology = newer parameters.

On a really cold morning 24 degrees or below my 5.0 will idle high for 10 minutes or so till the coolant temp reaches 145 to 150 degrees. It annoys me I wonder if the dealership can refresh the PCM so it doesn't idle so long.

Mine run 1,500 to 2,000 (depending how cold it is)
