Default High Idle

I've mentioned this before, but (for me) it's come up again and it's definitely an issue.

So, the F150 has a really high idle. So much so, that when you put it in gear, forward or reverse, the truck will move without touching the accelerator. I never liked this because it makes maneuvering in tight spaces more difficult and somewhat dangerous.

Obviously, it's winter and there's ice around. Here's what's been happening to me lately.
1. While on flat icy ground, standing still, the truck in gear and foot on brake, the rear wheel spins by itself.
2. Ditto in my garage (with epoxy) floor.
3. Ditto while sitting still in snow.

That just sucks. The truck moves side to side when this happens.
Here's another one for the "brilliant" engineers at Ford. The Silverado absolutely does not do this.

I wonder if there's a fix for this?

how high is your truck idling? mine idles high (1200 or so rpm) when you first crank it up, but after 5 minutes of running (which is longer than other vehicles, ill give you that) or when you shift it out of park it drops down to around 700 rpm.

One concern would be that the brakes cannot hold back a wheel when idling (even with a high idle) regardless of the surface. Even in the air your disc brakes should have no problem bringing all wheels to a standstill with gas applied.

I parked my truck outside last week for a night and it was about -20C. I remote started the truck a few minutes before getting in and it was idling at about 1500 still. Once I put it in gear it went to about 900 and then lower (as normal) once it warmed up.

I would say you need a trip to the dealer!
