Default hide spare push button start key

OK, on my 2007 I hid the 2nd key inside the truck and had a hide a key that was cut (no chip) just for the door on the outside. Just incase I ever lost my keys. Luckily I have never had to use my spare, but better safe than sorry.

Question would be, with the new push button start, and how it has a proximity key, what are you doing to have a 2nd key around just incase?

I suppose you could hide the second FOB in the MyKey hole? Underneath the rubber liner where the two USB ports and Nav card are located. You could use the door code to get in then use that key.

So the extra key wouldn't accidentally unlock the doors? (Might be a stupid question) But I thought as the key got close, the door will unlock when you pull the handle?

I had the key pad on my 2007, I still had the extra door key made just incase of a dead battery :-D.

In my experience, I have left the FOB inside the vehicle, got out, and locked the doors with the keypad. I tested it by trying to open the door. Even though the FOB was just inside the truck it wouldn't unlock unless I used the keypad to unlock it.

I don't know what to tell you in case of a dead battery. Take the key out from inside the FOB and stash it in your wallet old school style?

Was looking at this tonight, putting the fob in the mykey slot under the rubber mat & then using the keypad & door handle to lock....would not have to mess around with the key fob then..

The system "knows" where the fob is and if it inside the truck pulling the handle will not unlock the door... I have been told that if you leave the fob inside the truck lock the door from the keypad, the truck will not start until the doors are unlocked by the keypad... I have not personally tested this though...

Hey guys I know your all smart enough to realize but i figured I will just say it anyways. The last couple years in our quiet town there has been a rash of cars stolen and according to the police I have spoken to say most have been because people have been leaving there fobs in the vehicles ( i would think unlocked). Just remember to lock up! it makes way to easy for even an inexperienced car thief to take off with your $40/$60 thousand dollar rig.I know how easy it is to let your guard down in quiet neighborhoods which is in my case. Most city folk don't need the reminder locking up is just second nature. Not implying any just a Friendly reminder

You could try to put the fob inside a Mylar Bag. I do that with my toll pass box when I'm not using it. The bag would probably block the fob from being seen by the truck.

My new sho won't allow the doors to lock with the push to start fob left in the car. If my wife tries to put her purse in the trunk with her keys in it you can't lock the doors. Maybe that's a feature I can shut off but just a thought.
