Default HID Help

Hey Family,

First of all, Merry Christmas to those that are on today!!!

Need a little guidance. Just installed a HID kit last night (AC Canbus, error free, etc, WITH relay) and I can't get the passenger side HID to ignite consistently. Sometimes it works on the first try and sometimes it takes multiple tries. Normally I would think that this would be a ballast issue, but I've tried two different HID kits and both sides have trouble getting the passenger side lit. One kit used relay (this one) and the other kit had no relay.

Just wanted to see if anyone had tips on where I should start given the fact that both kits couldn't reliably get the passenger started.

Thanks!

I have had some HID flicker before on my 2004 when I initially did that install, I changed ballasts as well to still have the flicker. Turned out to be a loose pin in the harness that the ballast plugged into. If memory serves, it was the one of the smaller round cables that came off of the bulb had a bad connection. During the install, I also found that I had a bad connection at the factory harness to the HID ballast. I ended up changing the factory harness pigtail for about $10.
Have you swapped bulbs from one side to the other to see if the issues follows?
Check all of the connections as well, it drove me crazy for a couple hours when I was working on mine.
What heads and projectors are you using with your HIDs, any pics? I just upgraded my halogen to XHP50 LED bulbs and really want to do projector heads in the future.
Good luck and let us know how it goes and what you find.

Hey Tom! Thanks for the info.

As I'm sure you know, getting to the bulbs can be a bit of a PITA and in this cold weather it's risky to remove the headlights without breaking plastic.

The only reason I haven't tried swapping parts around is because I'm having the same issue with two completely different HID kits (all completely different parts). The passenger side will sometimes not light, sometimes it will light to full power, and sometimes it'll light very dim and then slowly gain power.

I went over my connections when it first happened and everything seems tight. Here's a picture of my housings by the way. I went with Anzo!HID Help-photo425.jpg

Yea, I completely understand what a PITA it is taking these heads out, when I found my bad pin, I had gone over and over unplugging and plugging back in all of the connectors, then I ended up unplugging them and using a small screwdriver to kinda push on the pins a little, that's when I saw one of the pins backed almost completely into the plug with any pressure, so I knew that was the culprit. That cured the flickering issue that I had with the poor connection. Checking out other plugs, I also found one a pin loose on the factory connection on the passenger side.
I hope they hold out for you until you get to a warmer location to check, I really like the look of the ANZOs and if I don't do an true retrofit, they're the ones that I have been looking at.
I have 2 other retrofit projects going on now with my 04 mustang and another set for my 04 F150 (just wanted another look for that one, others still work great), then I will probably do my 2016 F150.
Good luck, maybe they just need some burn in time. Also, I believe HIDPlanet.com may have some ideas for troubleshooting as well.

So for anyone who might come to this thread in the future, I think I've fixed the problem. On my HID kit the bulbs connect to the factory harness with what looks like a standard wall plug (picture attached). I figured that the connection between this and the factory harness might not be sufficient, so I gently bent the prongs inwards a tiny amount. Plugging it in this time felt much easier, and no more issues! Hopefully this lasts...HID Help-photo786.jpg

Can anyone help me out with the ground location for the low beams? Going to go over everything with electrical grease to see if that works.

that's what fixed mine. and it looked like one of my pins may have been a bit off so i bent it a bit and mine has not returned since.
