Default Here WeGo Map Creator and Sync Navigation Enabled Trucks

Hi,

I was under the impression that Navigation enabled trucks were using maps created by Here Map Creator but I recently did the 1 19 Maps upgrade, and when I compare what I see in my truck against what I see on the Here Map Creator website, they are different. Are they not using Here Map Creator? If not, what are they using?

I was all excited, as with the Here Map Creator I can fix what I perceive as errors around my neighborhood, and have done a number of fixes already, but if this is not what my truck is using I am wasting my time.

If they are using Here Map Creator, I would like to turn this into a tips and tricks thread for people that are updating the maps (for future truck navigation updates.)

Thanks in advance,

-John

I'm just realizing that 1 19 maps are over one year old already. Does that explain the difference between what I am seeing on the Here Map Creator (today) and the 1 19 Maps Update (a year ago January)?

If so, then we should update Here Maps so that in future Ford Map Updates get better and better?

Thanks,

-John

I purchased a 2016. The map version is 1 14. The first update provided by Ford (Sync) is 1 19 for my truck. If the map manufacturer is the same, most people will not even own their truck by the time the next map update is released.

I have a 2019 Truck, and have had 2 free updates so far. From 1 17 to 1 18, and then from 1 18 to 1 19. I think I will get one more free update, and then I will have to start paying for them.

I do realize this is a "labor of love" for folks that plan on keeping their trucks for a while, and continuing to use the onboard navigation. But I do plan to keep doing both these things, so for me it is worth it.

It must be a new thing for Ford. My truck was not eligible for any map updates, but I did receive a letter in the mail last month offering a special deal on a 2 year old (Version 1 19) update for $149. The actual maps are usually a year older than the software version based upon my experience with Garmin and Tom Tom.

I don't know why Ford is so behind. Assuming they have someone semi competent doing map updates, when they do issue an update it should be no more than 3 months old. Not over a year old. That's just silly.

Which is okay, as long as it adds value.

If/when we determine that Here Map Creator is the map used in our trucks, then we can start to dial in our local neighborhood, and make sure it is as up to date as it can be.

But personally, I am starting to think we need a commitment out of Ford to update our maps more frequently, and with the latest data available.

The maps are from HERE, therefore the changes you see or make in HERE Map Creator will eventually appear in the map updates. My vehicle came with NA 1 17 maps and one of the roads nearby shifted after construction was completed in late 2018. I made the change in the map creator however it wasn't included in the NA 1 18 update released last year. I recently did the NA 1 19 update, and it was one of the first things I checked and it was included.

Unfortunately, the map updates Ford provides are a year behind. I really don't know why, I'm sure it's feasible for them to provide us with a more updated map package.

I strongly recommend using Google Maps, Waze, whatever other phone app...android auto/apple carplay...not the truck's nav. That's how you get super up to date, reliable, accurate maps traffic, accident, stopped vehicle, debris, speed trap, etc info
