Help purchasing please :)
I have heard that most people get 10-14k off msrp, so invoice i should get 1-1.5k off that, where am i to see the invoice price? and apparently ill have to wait for the heavy duty package to be available thats fine worth the wait i think. but as far as xlt over lariat I've heard xlts generally have better deals but also when building the lariat it ends up costing like 2k more to get the options i wanted plus all it gets is an 8in screen and blis or what ever monitoring which i didn't really want and thats without getting a lot of the options i wanted like tow ramps. i want the plow prep because if i ever move back to colder climates like Mi or Utah id like to have it ready to attach a plow and for 50 bucks why not. as for the ramps i love the idea of stowing them on the sides of the bed since i have a motorcycle and wife will be getting one as well so thats kind of why i need a truck also to haul them around.
thanks to everyone for you help, if you don't mind explaining how invoice works as far as finding it and ordering. i was assuming id build my truck online the way i want and print it out and then go to all the dealers here in houston and find out who could order it for the lowest price, is this a good way to do it?

I plan on buying a new f150 in the next few months.
I'm thinking xlt will be the best option because of features and prices are generally lower than lariat. So i built the truck and msrp is 51k, what would be a fair price? what would my old price be I'm in texas, 5k down and no trade in.

Here is what I learned in my pursuit of 2016 Lariat.
1. Dealers that sell in volume focus on # of units sold, not any profit on 1 sale. You can search THIS VOLUME DEALER LIST list and consider visiting one.
2. The XL and XLT are direct competitors to Dodge/Chevy/GMC etc. As such, they will ALWAYS get the bigger discounts. When you look at Lariat and up, those are where Ford makes money as they are not 1:1 match with competitors and they can (and do) charge what they can. Capitalism at its finest.
3. The x-Plan is a promotion to get you in front of a salesman. Its insane the "fees" that somehow "appear" on the final paperwork. All sale staff I spoke with said anyone can beat x-Plan promotion, just ask.
4. Before you visit any dealer, build the vehicle on website then take 10% off MSRP (sorta the x-Plan price). Today, figure 3%? interest for 6 years. Determine what you will put down in cash/trade. Now calculate the MONTHLY PAYMENT you will have with those inputs. Only with a Monthly Payment figure are you ready for visit to dealer. So many people speak of discounts and crazy trade-in values but these numbers mean nothing unless you pay cash. Its that friendly reminder you get every month for 6 years that matters. I built a fancy Excel spreadsheet to do ALL this calculations, and I would be happy to share if I could figure how to get it put onto website.
5. Finally, whatever is on the lot will most times get best "discount", but not always. You must prepare with step 4 before you will know what a "great price" really means, TO YOU.

X-Plan is NOT a promotion. X-Plan is offered to Ford Employees and Retirees to give out to their friends and family (if they don't qualify for A plan), and is also available through some organizations.
X-Plan caps any paperwork at $100. There are no "fees" that end up on the paperwork in a true x-plan transaction, except for the normal tax and title and this max $100 fee. Ford checks all X-plan transactions to ensure this.
Huh ??? I got (2) dealers to build a vehicle with x-plan pricing and one had "Fuel $75, Advertising $900, $375 documentation etc.. fees" clearly delineated on quote. While your understanding is likely based on Fords rules, somehow they did not apply to both dealers I visited. The dealer I finally ordered from did not list these, but his final price could not include them and still be quite aggressive. I agree the x-plan is a standard program for employees and offered/promoted to non-employees for a short time. These statements are facts.
The promotion that Ford just ended gave "x-plan pricing" to everyone. It did not give x-plan FEES to everyone.
