Looking for some help here.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to lock down a snowmobile to the bed of a 2015 F150 Lariat.

The mounted hooks and e-track can be unscrewed, so any locking cable going through those is not good.

Anyone have a good way of securing the snowmobile to the bed? I figured a difficult to cut lanyard + lock would at least slow any thieves down (or make them choose a different target)...but not seeing where I can run that cable through the bed, or to the bed.

Looking for anyway of deterring thieves from steeling the snowmobile out of the bed of the truck while at a hotel or away from the truck for any period of time.

 

Honestly, make sure its insured and secure it like you were thinking. You just want to make it so its not easy to steal. If someone really wants to steal something, they will. Realistically its way faster/easier to cut a cable (which is secure in your mind) than to unscrew 4 screws. That's my $.05

 

If it's insured don't worry about it. Take the necessary precautions to secure it as best you can but as was mentioned in the prior post..."If someone really wants to steal something, they will." It's better to let them have it than to have them steal or damage the truck by trying to get it. JMO

 

My 2015 has locking tie down points I simply use a cable lock or chain and padlock from one of these to secure tools and generator. Nothing short of a .357 will stop a determined thief but it might slow him down while you get the .357.

 

Thanks folks. Totally understand that anyone who wants it, will get it...but...if I can make it difficult for them, I'd rather them see the lock, and decide to just move onto an easier target.

Bubbabud...what are these locking tie down points you have? I haven't seen these anywhere. Could you link something that shows these?

 

Kat these came with my 2015 xlt it is a optional ford part they consist of 4 plates that bolt to the bedside and 4 cleats that that lock into the plates with a key and cover the bolts so they can't be removed without the key I don't know what Ford calls them but I'm sure the dealer parts dept. could steer you in the right direction.

 

I think they call them Box Link. Mine came with them.

 

If your tailgate shuts, just lock it. Not sure I know of many people who can lift a snowmobile over the rails of a truck.

 

My truck has bolted in tie down points in the corners. If you want more security see if you can install nuts on the end of the bolts from below. You may need longer bolts. With jam nuts installed, it should be much more difficult to remove the bolts.

Alternative - I think mine are Torx head. You could fill the head with epoxy.

At this point I will just run a cable/lock through the corner tie-down points, and hope thieves aren't carrying around torx bits or shears. Maybe over the summer I'll look into a better solution like bubbabud has.

*I do have the box link, but those are also just screwed into the bed. And unfortunately the sled is longer than the bed, so the tailgate has to be down to transport it. Some folks do put the tailgate up and let the sled sit on top of that, but don't want to do that to my 2015's tailgate.
