Heavy duty payload package, does it exist?

No news yet on the Heavy Duty Payload build start date.
The Nissan Titan SD Cummins diesel is supposed to start becoming available next month. Looking at the early information on the 2016 Nissan Titan XD Cummins diesel, it will have a higher GVWR than the F150 Heavy Duty Payload (8990 pounds for the Titan XL and only 7850 for the Ford) but a much higher curb weight (7152), so the payload on it looks like it would be 1838 maximum payload on the Titan 4x4 crew cab instead of the maximum 2650 on the Ford F150 HD Payload 4x4 SuperCrew 3.5 EcoBoost. The new Cummins must be a heavy engine. Fuel economy figures haven't been announced yet.

I don't believe fuel economy numbers will be announced, at least not from the EPA. With a GVWR over 8500#, EPA numbers are not required on the sticker. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm not sure. That's the thing to remember about the Titan XD; it's really a 2500 series truck.

A Super Duty or Ram 2500 are the other options if my truck doesn't get built this time.

Did you see how they used the 5.0 against the the Titan XD to compare their towing capabilities? The excuse was the "5.0 was more common compared to the 3.5 ECO". I call bull****. They used a NA V8 against a turbo diesel 5.0 in high altitude tow tests. It's like comparing the 5.0 against the 3.5NA and saying see how much better the 5.0 does?
It's funny how they couldn't put it up agianst it's true competition. Probably because the 3.5 ECO demolished the 5.0 cummins on the first test run!! And I bet the fuel economy isn't much better than the 3.5 ECO.
I guess only time will tell!! It's an amusing video to watch actually.. And they didnt even let them drive!!!

Titan XL is out for me. I spoke with a dealer today. There is no 6-passenger version, and payload is a max 2000 minus weight of accessories and options.

mhm, so the Titan comes with a 26 gal tank, payload / towing for the Pro-4X is less than my '13 Lariat, and well it's a Nissan The base models are not that much better (if at all) in terms of payload / towing #'s than the less-loaded '15 F150...
not sure why they would waste their energy to come up with that... it's not a HD 1/2 ton, it's a 1/2 ton, period. Unless you must have a diesel, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. and if you are gonna deal with a diesel, might as well get a true 250 / 2500, no?

My understanding after investigating all this Heavy Duty Towing Package stuff for my Platinum truck is that there are 2 optional Tow Packages: the basic Tow Package and the Max Tow Package.
I could not find out anything about my basic Tow Package in the Owners Manual, only Heavy Duty and Max, so I started to wonder if what I had was the Heavy Duty Package even though "Heavy Duty" was not listed anywhere on my widow sticker or my paperwork.
Anyway I went to the Ford Owners website and entered my VIN to get my "Vehical Summary" and sure enough there it was: Heavy Duty Tow Package. I have no idea why they do not use "Heavy Duty" when you order the Tow Package and then in the Owners Manual it, and "Max" is always listed in the charts for how much you can tow, etc...

How did you view your vehicle summary? I went to the owners page on the Ford Website but didn't see "vehicle summary". Would like to look over all that I have optioned on my truck as I threw out the window sticker.
Thanks

No 2.7 trucks have the Heavy Duty Payload Package; it is only on the 3.5 EcoBoost and 5.0. The option available on the 2.7 is called the 2.7 EcoBoost Payload Package, and it just increases the payload up near to what a regular 3.5 EB or 5.0 has.

New member here . I have a 2013 F150 xl with heavy duty payload package . I'm in Florida and this is my second truck with this option ....supercab longbed 4x4 with 3.5 ecoboost . There are only two engines for this package ....5.0 v8 and 3.5 ecoboost . Truck must be longbed but my first truck was regular cab also . There are some quirks in the ordering for this package and if you go through the fleet dept at your dealer it's so much easier ...I learned that one the hard way by going through the cancelled order routine or the " you're too late for this year " routine ....reason given to me was that fleet orders are filled first and Ford quietly discourages retail sales of that particular option . Could be because the frames are special , thicker than normal 150 frames ...beefier springs and shocks and special rear with either 3.73 0r 4.10 gear . It can be ordered in the xl with just the trailer tow package as it comes but xlt or higher trims require max tow option for some reason . Love my truck and it hauls the freight ...good luck to all .
