Is the volume of air coming through the vents strong? I ask because "rodents" tend to clog up heaters and vents. Sometimes it's not really noticable until it's really cold/hot and the air coming through the vents is reduced...

'Sounds' like the heater core (ie. blows hard but no heat).

Do you use your block heater much?

Couple people have had this issue:

if he's getting full force of air blowing then it does sound like that heater core issue. If it were my truck I wouldn't be using that block heater if at all possible....

At this point assuming the block heater has already screwed up the heater core it makes no difference IMO. If that's actually the problem I'd be hesitant to keep using it once the truck has been repaired but you have to do what you have to do....

something to read: https://macsworldwide.wordpress.com/...d-goes-orange/

So has Ford gone all GM-ish on us? Mostly not, because most people forget that “Dex-Cool” is actually a specification, not a distinct product. Any product produced for GM and meeting the performance spec can be called by that name, and many chemical companies produce qualifying product. Moreover, Ford acknowledges this right in their Motorcraft parts catalog. Note the last line!

A big reason for the GM fiasco was poor maintenance and faulty pressure caps. The systems largely went unchecked, were allowed to run low due to the faulty caps stuck open from the oxidation and build up of the components within the cooling system once the system was running low. The seals were probably not up to par either, being made to withstand the organic acids in the coolant. Lastly, mixing DEX with the old green stuff, while not immediately harmful, reduces the service life of the coolant in the system. It needs to be changed out a lot sooner.
