Default headlights

I swapped out my stock halogen crap bulbs (these should never have passed street safety tests they are so bad) for a set of led bulbs in both the heads and fogs and it made a huge difference, I can actually see the road now... With the stock halogens I could not drive bc the light from it was so bad...Anyways Ive been thinking of getting some better looking headlight housing such as the anzo..However, I dont want to lose the light output...Ive been hearing a lot of conflicting opinions that anzo with hid are the best for light output etc. then other people say the stock halogen housing with a good set of LEDs is the best for light output...Which is it?

Have you checked to see if you are blinding everyone else?

I have never been flashed at. I drive in the country where there are zero lights besides your own & never been flashed there either...But regardless I could not drive this truck with the stock halogens they were that terrible...

Just out of curiosity, what LED's did you use?

I'm very interested to what you used as well. I agree that the stock halogens are complete junk and would like to upgrade ASAP. Had stock Ford HID's on my 14 Lariat that I just traded in for my 17 Lariat and could not be more disappointed with the headlights.

I'm worried about dropping in LED's into the reflector housing because I'm reading that it scatters the light and blinds oncoming drivers. I'm very anxious to hear everyone's feedback on how I should proceed (LED or HID) and what brand works best. Thank you!!!

Yeah, you really shouldn't do it without a proper housing. You are blinding others, and the light output can be worse than the stock bulbs because it isn't being properly directed. Not being flashed at does not mean not blinding people.

People may not flash, or as has happened to me, I have had someone driving towards me with bright as hell HIDs in reflector housings, but there are other vehicles behind them and beside them and I don't want to blind or confuse everyone.

Get projector housings, it's best for everyone.

ANZO projector housings with HIDs. Take it from me, I gave LEDs a chance but they're just not on par with HID yet. Here's my output:

Lol....So many people complaining about the halogen headlights even though that`s what 100% of people have be driving with all their lives.

All of these complaints started when LED headlights became available on the F150`s and the same was being said when HID`s were on the F150`s

I`ve seen many current model F150`s on the road and the halogen headlights are fine.

The current F150 wouldn`t even be on the road if the lights didn`t pass DOT requirements.

Hmm, you can`t see the road while using the halogen headlights?

If that`s the case, you should only drive in the daytime or not at all.

There's a lot more to it than that. There was a recent report on headlight effectiveness and full size trucks scored the worst, even with LED lighting (although they scored better).

To be DOT certified the lights need to put their light in a specific path to not blind oncoming drivers. Trucks sit much higher than most cars and even many SUVs, so the light shines in a more downward path, giving less "throw" distance.

LEDs/HIDs help with this because they have a better cutoff so they can give them a little more throw distance plus they are brighter.

Sorry for a Fox News link...

http://www.foxnews.com/auto/2016/10/...ght-tests.html

From the article:
"The Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Tundra full-size pickups also earned "poor" ratings. Both the low-beams and the high-beams on the F-150 — the best-selling full-size pickup in the U.S. — provided inadequate visibility, even with optional LED lights added, the institute said."

Ford will lose any chance at a Top Safety Pick - Plus rating if they don't improve it for future model years. I don't think there is any way to do this without lowering the headlight mounting position, which will really impact the classic "truck" look, but will be way better for illumination.

Older trucks were better about this, the ones you say we have been driving with Halogens "FOREVER", because they were a lot lower than current giant F-150s, especially the headlight mounting position.

like others have mentioned, the new bulbs are scattering light and you are just blinding others. Halogens are perfectly fine, all you had to do was adjust the aim a bit higher is my guess. Takes a few seconds with an Allen wrench, these have to be the easiest headlights to adjust I've ever used. Philips makes some great halogen bulbs you'd be very happy with while keeping your road manners intact.
