Default Headlight upgrade question

Good morning

Looking for advice on a quality headlight upgrade for my 2018 lariat with halogens. I’ve done quite a bit of searching but having trouble narrowing down. My main concern is light output at night and safety. I’m not particularly concerned about looks etc. I also want DOT legal, reliable, and ideally plug and play. Heard mixed things on the Morimoto hybrids. Also looking at the anzos etc. Looking to keep it under $1000 if possible.

Thanks and appreciate the advice!
Dan

I’m happy with my Morimoto Hybrids. I think they are the best looking aftermarket lights because they somewhat resemble OEM LEDs. I had one with a faulty adjuster right out of the box but it was replaced under warranty and they have been trouble free since.

Thanks for the perspective. Could I ask how long you’ve had them?

I’ve had them since November, so not real long yet.

I've have the Morimoto Hybrids about the same length of time as mcr1911 so I can't speak for longevity either but the light output is a huge improvement over the factory halogens. I do like the OEM look more but my main concern was being able to see since most of the roads I take don't have streetlights.

The Morimoto's still look good though and I think I'll like the way they look a lot more once I have a chance to install the Morimoto fog lights that have been sitting in my garage for months.

I went the cheap route, went with a higher powered bulb in a white light. Amazing difference. Also makes a world of difference if the headlights are properly aimed. Moved the OEM high beam bulb down to the fog light location which really lights up the road surface on back county roads.

You've got three basic options.

Bulb replacement, cheap headlights, and expensive headlights. I've done all three. Here are my opinions...

Bulb replacement - a cheap upgrade with a modest improvement in light output if you buy good bulbs.

Cheap headlights ($300-500) - I personally had the ANZOs. They had good projectors with decent cut off. Light output wasn't significantly better than stock, but with the light concentrated on the road it made things a little better. The AlphaRex Pro would also be in this category. In my ANZOs I had both Morimoto LED and HID bulbs.

Expensive headlights - These are the AlphaRex Nova and Morimoto XB headlights. Typically just over $1000. The light output on my AlphaRex is spectacular. WELL worth the upgrade for those that can afford to spend the money.

My recommendation is a high end headlight. They're so worth it. As a disclosure I received both the ANZO and AlphaRex for free for reviews, I just like to be transparent about that. I've got nothing against the Morimoto headlights I just haven't used them, but I'm sure they're great.

Another vote for the Alpharex Nova's. Amazing light output.

if I wanted to do bulb update at least for now until I can pull those off but keep it DOT legal, any suggestions? Obviously can’t put LEDs in these and keep it legal
