Default Hazards and Horn Operate Erratically

I think I may have two problems here, just culminating into one big cluster. My hazards will activate randomly when the truck is parked and off. I used to think it was a water issue, as the truck seems to act funny when it gets wet, but it just did it right now and the weather is bone dry. I cannot even shut my door all the way without the hazards activating, that's how bad it is right now. If I go past the first click on the striker, the hazards activate and cannot be turned off. I have done some brief research that points to a possible battery (low voltage issue), and maybe even a BCM...but I was hoping someone may have had something similar happen to them?

The second issue is the horn operation and alarm, which activates when the truck gets washed or in heavy rain. I think this problem may be a bad seal at the door harness weather boot (it isn't seated properly). I'm almost positive a good seal will fix the alarm problem, but the last time I washed it, my tire monitors malfunctioned, and now they do not read tire pressure, and I get a fault message every time I start the truck up. What are the odds I broke something expensive? (e.g. something I can't just rest with Forscan.) Could excess water activate the horn through the door harness seal?

Any advice or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check for DTCs. Then pull the kick panel and sill plate off on the passenger side and look for moisture around the BCM. There has been several postings where water leaked into the cab and effected the wiring to the BCM.

A failing BCM could also be the problem. Good luck.

Thanks, yea I saw that thread, and a few others like it. Kind of used that as a starting point here. The battery tested good, although a little low (12.5v). I think it's the original battery. I've been tying up potential leaks around the door harness seals, where water was probably entering the connectors, but the truck went into the body shop so I haven't been able to see if it made a difference. I'll have to look into the BCM when I get it back and continue my quest.

Question: Would the BCM also control a backup sensor? I have noticed long before I ever did anything to the truck that, when washing it, I'd get a backup sensor warning on the screen and the backup obstacle detector system would not work, but only when wet. Not sure if this has anything to do with my current issues, or is just maybe a bad connector somewhere letting water in.

Yes. The PAM (Parking Aid Module) is an integral part of the BCM.

Alrighty....Well, I don't suppose the BCM is one of those convenient $40 parts to replace, lol. That's probably the last thing I'd want to go bad.

Does anyone know if there is a service manual reference for diag, or trouble trees or anything? Or do we just have to know where to poke around to find out what's wrong?

The Workshop Manual is full of pinpoint tests related to the BCM. After all, the BCM controls a good portion of what your truck does. My WSM is over 10,000 pages. And no, its not $40 to replace.

If you want to troubleshoot this and get help from here, I would start by getting FORScan and checking DTCs.

I do have Forscan and was contemplating pulling any pending codes to see if anything is happening I can't see. I know engine codes can be pending, but does the BCM work the same way? I've only seen fault messages for the TPMS and park aid sensors, and when those go away, the dash lights are normal. I guess it stands to reason that codes would be stored, huh?

I guess my last post never posted. All off these DTCs lead me to believe it could absolutely be a water-related issue (like water saturating a connector).

I cleared them, will monitor during the week, and try to see if I can get it to act up while washing it next weekend. I'm thinking painter's tape will help me isolate a location since I do not see a right or left-hand side specified in the codes, but issues with both left and right-hand lights, for example. Curiously, I'm getting cargo lamp, dome, and headlamp codes as well, which makes me wonder if water is actually getting down to the BCM itself...

For anyone curious, here's what it looked like today before I cleared the codes. (BTW - Would there happen to be a way to find the TIME a DTC was set?)
