Has Sync 2 Been Left For Dead
Ok. So obviously we all know sync 3 is the new system. But can anyone with inside knowledge, (or maybe a Ford customer service rep can chime in), but will there be another sync 2 update?
Hi Anonymous1,
We won't forget about our previous SYNC models! New updates were release for all systems last year. I can't speculate on when other version will be released, but we will continue to support all systems.

I had Gen 1 SYNC in my 2011 Raptor. As soon as Gen 2 came out, Gen 1 was dead as far as support goes. Im betting the same goes for Gen 2 now since Gen 3 is out. 3.8 was probably our last update for Gen 2
That's kind of what I was thinking as well. Support is one thing. Future updates are another. I would bet 3.8 will be the final update. Since mobile phone operating systems constantly get updates, Sync 2 needs to be updated with at least bug fixes to keep phone functionality working. Understandably there will be no new "features" released for MFT sync 2. But at least release new versions to maintain existing core functions.
Oh yeah, SYNC 2 is dead. Im sure if there is a huge bug, they'll code a fix. Other then that, I think we're done. I wish I could just unplug a SYNC 3 head unit, and swap it with my SYNC 2, plug and play style. Only if it was that easy....

You can upgrade to sync 3, but it's not cheap.

To upgrade to Sync 3, you will need a new APIM and display unit. The Sync 3 APIM will plug right into a 2015 model. The only issue is you will need the APIM programmed in order for it to work.
