Default Has Sync 2 Been Left For Dead

Ok. So obviously we all know sync 3 is the new system. But can anyone with inside knowledge, (or maybe a Ford customer service rep can chime in), but will there be another sync 2 update?

Hi Anonymous1,

We won't forget about our previous SYNC models! New updates were release for all systems last year. I can't speculate on when other version will be released, but we will continue to support all systems.

I had Gen 1 SYNC in my 2011 Raptor. As soon as Gen 2 came out, Gen 1 was dead as far as support goes. Im betting the same goes for Gen 2 now since Gen 3 is out. 3.8 was probably our last update for Gen 2

That's kind of what I was thinking as well. Support is one thing. Future updates are another. I would bet 3.8 will be the final update. Since mobile phone operating systems constantly get updates, Sync 2 needs to be updated with at least bug fixes to keep phone functionality working. Understandably there will be no new "features" released for MFT sync 2. But at least release new versions to maintain existing core functions.

Oh yeah, SYNC 2 is dead. Im sure if there is a huge bug, they'll code a fix. Other then that, I think we're done. I wish I could just unplug a SYNC 3 head unit, and swap it with my SYNC 2, plug and play style. Only if it was that easy....

You can upgrade to sync 3, but it's not cheap.

Interesting. Is this a hole new unit, software patch, or just a guts swap? I wonder what I could sell my SYNC 2 unit for on eBay?

Whole new unit. Your existing unit will not run sync 3

I've been meaning to contact those people on that site. Upgrading to Sync 3 consists of more than just swapping out your APIM and screen. Your APIM will need to be programmed in order for it to work. Not sure if they will be doing that or not.

To upgrade to Sync 3, you will need a new APIM and display unit. The Sync 3 APIM will plug right into a 2015 model. The only issue is you will need the APIM programmed in order for it to work.
