Default Has anyone ever swapped to locking tail gate?

I have a 2019 F150 XL with back up camera the tailgate does not have a lock. I’d like to add one. Has anyone ever swap the handles and installed a locking one. Any information is helpful. Pictures are even better. Thanks again.

Are you talking about an aftermarket handle with a key?
I don't think I've seen a 13th gen F150 with a keyhole on the tailgate handle. On my 2017 and 2020 F150s the handle doesn't have a key hole but the tailgate locks whenever the doors lock.

my 2015 XL had a locking tailgate, I didn’t think it was locking either but it does. If yours came with a camera, it locks also unless it’s broke

My 2018 XL locks whenever the doors are locked too. It's taken some adjustment for me as I often just walked outside and put down the one on my previous trucks without unlocking them. And I kept forgetting to unlock this truck first during the first few weeks I had it.

If you have power locks, your tailgate locks when you lock the doors. Only the very base XL trucks have a manual locking tailgate, which, it appears your truck is an XL sport.

What's your interest in a locking tailgate? If it's to keep the tailgate from getting stolen, you might be better off getting a tailgate lock that wraps around the right hinge to keep it from being lifted out.

Like others have said, if you have power door locks, you should have a power locking tailgate. But if you have manual door locks I am not sure what provisions there are to add a locking tailgate handle.

If you do have manual locks, is there any electric assist (like using the key on the driver's side also unlocks the passenger side as well)? If so I wonder if the truck is wired up and it being a matter of getting a few components to enable the tailgate to be incorporated into that circuit.

yes I have a sport/custom order. I’m buying it from a family member to be my detail/work truck and didn’t see a key hole so I was worried my vacuum, extractor, pressure washer , buffer and chemicals wouldn’t be locked up under the bed cover… guess I’m just old I didn’t even know this existed on trucks.

They don’t have a key hole. You lock them with the power lock switch or key fob.
