Default Has anyone encountered this problem???

I put to much fuel in the tank and the gas overflowed onto the ground(I know it was lame of me). When I went to start the truck and see how many miles/range it had, it read 100 miles short of what I usually get to a fill up. Meaning I usually have a distance of 500 miles after I fuel up and this time it read 400. I tried to reset it, but it still reads 100 miles off. Also, its been a few days now and it still isn't correct. Any ideas why my range isn't reading correctly? Also, it isn't self adjusting to the fuel gauge which reads normal. I have a 23 gallon tank!!

I have a 23 gal tank. ive only seen about 430 miles when full. once the pump stops, you stop. If you overfill it you can damage the evap system. Ive had a couple fill ups the pump stop and only got about 410 miles. Give it some time to adjust.

It's been two days and now I'm down to 3/4 of a tank. I hope I didn't mess something up by pumping too much fuel in the tank. Also, I average 22 MPG which the indicator reads, so times that by 23 gallons and you get a 506 mile range.

I've seen where my distance after fill-up has read 500-ish and other times 450-ish (or less) on my 23 Gal tank. I've always assumed it was basing its calculations on the average MPG I was getting immediately prior to fill-up. i.e. It seems to be higher when on highway trips and lower when doing mostly city driving. I've over-pumped a time or two, never any problem -- albeit, never a good thing.

Reset you trip computer and see what it says.

Average indicator is since last reset (holding OK button), distance to empty is only averaged over the last 500 miles or so. Better DTE if you've just driven on the highway, worse DTE if you've stayed in the city.

You might find that your DTE based on city driving may go down by less than 100 miles if you drive the next 100 miles on the highway, it will recalculate to the last 500 miles, not since the last fill-up.

Today, I filled up on "Empty" for the first time. According to the pump, I had 3 full gallons left in the 23 gallon tank.

You have a point, the indicator may only be seeing 19 or 20 gallons of usable fuel. But then why does it read 500 miles on other fuel ups and it's never read as low as 400 miles on this fuel up.

^THIS (bolded). It will always be different depending on what mileage you've been getting prior to filling. Not sure what kind of sample it takes to figure it out though. The last 30 minutes, the last 100 miles, etc...

My best so far on a 36 gallon tank:

If your last reading on fuel mileage was low, say 14.0 mpg then when you fill up it uses that to project the range on your next fill up. Mine is always higher at fill up after being on the highway and showing a high mpg adverage. The opposite after city driving.
