Default Halogen to LED 3rd brake light Conversion

Hey guys, I didn't see anything mentioned about this so I figured I would start a thread. I had the halogen 3rd brake light, added the Sylvania LED bulbs and honestly still wasn't happy. To me you can't beat a factory look. I purchased the LED 3rd brake light and installed it. The cargo lamps work perfect. I'll drive the truck around tomorrow and confirm the brake light itself but everything seems fine. The only modification you need to do is trim the 2 little raised lines off the bottom of the connector. (for some reason the halogen plug and LED plug have the lines inverted) Once you do that it's plug and play!

Hope this helps someone out!

Your truck is a Lariat with 501A?

Thanks

The cost is $111 new from Ford. I'm sure Tasca could do better than that though. The part number on Ford parts website is 13A613 but that seems to be a generic number for all 3rd brake lights. Tomorrow when the sun is up I'll pop it off and take a picture of the decal on the light. That will probably have the info you need.

That's a fair question...

Baxzilla can you tell a difference in light output vs. the Sylvania LED bulbs?

That's what I did before. And you can do that too. Whatever you prefer.

Honestly The factory one does seem to shed a bit more light than the Sylvania bulbs, but worth the price difference in my opinion? No. I did this for a few reasons. 1 curiosity of the difference and 2 I thought it would look nicer. If I had to do it over again would I? Eh if I got the factory LED light cheap then sure, otherwise no.

Thanks baxzilla! I was trying to decide between the 2 options... I think I'll stick to just changing the bulbs.

Yeah there are several parts that contain that number, it's the prefix that seems to make the difference. Thanks for posting it if you have a chance!
