In my opinion, if your vehicle is under any kind of warranty, it’s their job to unplug the battery and do all the tricks they are suggesting. However, If you are out of warranty, you have nothing to lose!

in my case, I knew I was really close to the end of the warranty. We had actually just moved from Indiana to Michigan, and we do winters In Arizona. So I did have some options. The dealer closest to our new house were idiots! I think The one In Arizona were on the right track, we just ran out of time and couldn’t be without a vehicle for as long as they said they needed it. So we went to a larger dealer a little farther from home. Very happy with the service there. We now take all our vehicles there. LaFontaine Ford of Birch Run.

I’m very curious also. I just dropped mine off today for the same issue (screen freezing, No GPS icon, settings clearing at each power cycle). I already have an uneasy feeling about this visit. When writing up the diagnosis service order and telling me that the diagnostic fee is $159, I informed them that I had an extended warranty and the service writer immediately said “updates are not covered under warranty so you’ll still have to pay the fee”. They haven’t even pulled the truck to the back yet and he’s already assuming it’s going to be an update.

He started saying that since my phone was newer, they would likely need to update Sync to newer software and that’s likely to be the culprit. I said that would make sense for my issue with CarPlay not connecting half the time, but what does that have to do with the No GPS error on the nav. He responded with “it’s all connected”.

Needless to say, I’m unnecessarily anxious about the whole thing and I have a hunch they’re going to tell me to pay for the update and call it fixed but I know from all the similar stories on here that it needs a new APIM.

It’s all so frustrating. You pay good money for a Ford extended warranty and the dealer resorts to the fastest and easiest solution for them, which also happens to be something that’s not covered.

If it were me, I'd have stopped that advisor right there and driven off . . . it's apparent that they are crooks . . . you can always find another dealer who will deal honestly with you

I still have my OEM warranty for another 11 months or 10k miles, (3 year/36K) which ever comes first

Where are you located? I just took a trip to Phoenix May-2025, when I got to Texas the GPS (SYNC 2) quit working and like the OP while in the Phoenix area it started acting rather strange, at one point nothing no audio, zip. Also if I passed this one location, like clock work it would go through "required maintenance" and shut back down. Then On the way back home to KY while in Kansas everything seemed to start working normal again.
