Default Gps/nav?

I posted this in the general F-150 forum, should have put it here!

Took delivery last month, XLT loaded. I noticed that there is a "Where am I?" feature, which gives lat/long. (I opted out for the NAV during the build).

Does this mean there is a GPS receiver, and can it (NAV) be added aftermarket?

So far this truck is awesome, no issues as others listed in the complaint thread - yet.

Aftermarket nav systems can be added to most any vehicle. I added a Jensen Nav system to my wife's Crown Vic. The GPS is in the navigation/radio.

Thanks for the reply! I guess I meant to say can the OEM NAV be added?

Could it possibly just be a software upgrade?

Factory navigation can't be added later unfortunately. You just have a GPS receiver that's used for traffic and directions via SYNC Services.

I had an aftermarket NAV system installed on mine when it arrived. The system is made by Intraphex. http://www.intraphex.com/. it works with the MFT and is as good if not better than the OEM Nav system.

I'm not sure on adding factory NAV but you probably have the reduced Sync system so that would still be limited. But some of the aftermarket nav systems are awfully good and MUCH less expensive. If the OEM Nav unit goes out it's probably about $2500 to replace.

Hi Leaddog,

I'm glad to see you're lovin' your new truck!

Navigation cannot be added after a vehicle leaves the factory due to licensing, but we do offer an audible alternative called SYNC Services. Check out the details here:

This also uses the GPS module to give you the correct directions. Let me know if you have any questions!

If you want to add a 'Nav system' after the fact, I'd look into a Lockpick Air and then just mirror your phone while running Waze or Google Maps.

Thanks! I have a top of the line handheld GPS I use for hunting/hiking which is already mounted. It converts to a Nuvi type system....That's the reason I didn't add the NAV to it. I was just wondering for future "add on's".

It can be done, a few ways to do it. I sent you a PM.
