In my opinion FX4 does not ride very well, at least when paired with max tow. I have a supercrew FX4 max tow package. The rear end is lively to say the least.

I haven't done the research on everything the max tow package does. I suspect it's just an additional leaf spring in the back. If that's the case I'm considering removing it and throwing in some airbags instead.

I've owned both 2012 and 2015 SCREW FX4s with a level and E rated tires. The 2015 has a significantly worse ride then the 2012. I assume it's because of the weight loss. I plan on putting a Leer topper on it, I hope the weight helps. Another thread talks about switching out to adjustable shocks, that may be another solution?

Another 15 super crew/fx4/max tow owner here, agreeing that the rear end is "lively" (that's a good way to describe it.). The easiest way to reproduce it is when I'm leaving a stop light in my neighborhood and crossing a four lane road - it hops when you go over that little asphalt ripple between the two lanes I'm turning into. The hellwig has helped as did the level.
I watched another 15 fx4 crew going down the road the other day from his blindspot. Tires hopping up and down on a decent asphalt road.

At this point I'm pretty use to it though and I don't know that it would be worth the several hundo for new shocks.

The handling on mine is amazing, mind you I was coming from a F350 that would get thrown all over the place with every little bump you hit

But I think Ford did a great job with the handling on these trucks, they really have it dialed in. One of the main reasons I won't be lifting it or screwing around with the suspension

Frankly, I haven't noticed anything wrong with mine yet because I have 900 miles on the clock. That said I've never been satisfied with a stock suspension LOL.

Bouncing rear end or Wheel hop - Guys keep saying it's due to the AL body. If I'm correct, the AL frame is 750# lighter? Earth shattering? First thing I'd try is 8 cement bags in the back and see what that does.
More than likely, it's gonna need MORE DAMPENING. Makes total sense. Very few cars come with adequate dampening, especially if you LIKE to drive. They put a quick motor under the hood and people are enduced to drive even faster.
Shock swap is cake. Problem is, Bilstein says they don't have anything for the F150 V8 Larry 4x4 etc.

The frame isn't aluminum. It's steel. The body is aluminum and up to 750lbs. lighter than the 2014 models were assuming comparable options and trim levels. That's not insignificant. Having said that, I don't have any real issues as I said outside of going to fast on really crappy roads. I'd have that on virtually anything without being loaded down with cargo.

Can't complain about my FX4. I did switch out tires from goodyear Fortitudes to Cooper AT3's. With the goodyears it rode smoother and more body lean. With the Coopers less body lean and more responsive in turns and a stiffer ride. The Coopers are LTs and load range C. It"s a truck I expect it to ride somewhat stiff IT'S A TRUCK!!! .

I agree with the rear end hop however its not very often an issue and only on gravel from my experience. The thing handles perfect in the city and highway for me.

The first week I owned the truck I was heading out to hunt turkey and was on a stretch of gravel that has washboards. Running 65 mph the rear end kicked out so far it was damn near perpendicular to the road. Kinda freaky the first time. My 05 would kick out a little but this was damn near uncontrollable. Couple other fellas that live in the country I know have complained about this as well and they had not experienced this with their previous fords.

I drove an FX4 and a regular 4x4 F150 SuperCrew back to back when I bought mine. The FX4 trucks have a slightly firmer ride, but honestly the difference on pavement isn't huge. From what I understand the FX4 shocks shine over the stock ones off road, but I haven't put that to the test. I also don't know how aftermarket shocks stack up to the FX4's stock shocks. This is my first 4x4 so I have nothing to compare it to on that front.

Aside from the stiffness, I don't think they handle differently. I really had to pay attention to the feel of the road while driving the two trucks to tell them apart. Again I could tell the FX4 had a firmer ride, but I liked that.

What brand shocks are on the 2016 FX4 package?
