I have a 36 gallon tank and have used the funnel.

Today's gas prices are a tiny glitch in time and is in no way used to be considered as a reason to 'buy more gas'.
There was a fuel economy thread the other day say something about gas being so cheap that MPG threads are dumb. Yeah, they always are dumb but for a period of a few months with low gas prices is not indicative of a vehicle that we'll own for the next many years.
I had to use the funnel to add gas to the tank when parking on a hill that was too steep for fuel to be in the pump pickup.

I used the funnel to add 4 gallons of fuel which I got out of my snowmobile prior to summer storage prep. What a PIA cause it doesnt allow a very quick fill.

Same here with stored gas...I never ran the snow blower or generator all winter so that gas goes into the truck now. I must have a dozen funnels some almost identical in size to the one in the truck, but none of them open up some damper inside the fill neck. I have only been able get gas in using the funnel that came with the truck.

That's because the funnel is designed to release two tabs on the side of the filler tube. When the tabs are released the flapper can open....

I read somewhere that some fuel additive bottles like heet or isopropyl do the same thing that the funnel does, so you dont need to use a funnel to add the contents to your tank.

I thought about buying some and see if that is true. If so, then cut the bottle bottom off and use the bottle as a funnel because it is larger. Anyone done that?

Hmmm, quite possible, but, until the bottle top is far enough down to release the tabs, I would think the contents of the bottle might run all over the place....??? Don't know, I've only ever added an additive once to my truck, and that was when I first got it, and at that time I used the handy dandy supplied funnel

I THINK the Chevron Techron bottle has a long neck meant for capless filler necks.

I do not remember if I used it. Honestly, the funny is cleaner, just have to clean the funnel after. As I continue thinking of it, the bottle was in fact for that but you have to get it set up and not spill, then force it in so as not to have it splash back before the flapper in the neck opens.

I'm pretty sure I used both bottles without a funnel because I remember wiping the side of the truck down while the bottle was pouring, and hoping my fresh coat of wax was doing it's job. The 2nd time I learned enough to do it fast. The bottle should indicate that it works with capless necks -if what somebody chooses to use does NOT state that, probably good to just use the funnel.

When I used the funnel for gasoline, I just sprayed it with something, contact cleaner maybe, before stowing it.

Why not just buy a funnel?

Can you buy funnels which are a lot larger than the small oem units? I already have the tiny oem.
