Default Fuel pump differences

So I recently ordered the parts needed to complete the 23 to 36 gallon fuel tank conversion from a salvage yard. Instead of sending me the all the parts from a 407 mile 2017 like agreed to, they just threw a regular fuel pump from a 2016 inside the tank. Long story short, after much research it seems to me that the only difference in the two pumps is the actual float arm length. I found where you can order just the arm/sending unit from Rock Auto for $30 shipped. Can anyone confirm my findings? I would rather just order the extended range sending unit and put it on my pump I take out of my 23 gallon tank. Thanks for the help.

$95 for the tank. $125 for freight. 😳 Weighs nothing but is very long.

Well I think my experiment worked. I just replaced the extended range sending unit on my fuel pump and it seems to be working correctly. I did the Forscan change in the IPC module and it is showing the correct DTE. The only issue I have is that after I installed the completely empty(dry) 36 gallon tank I put pretty much exactly 5 gallons of gas in it. I then went straight to the gas station to fill up. At the station I could only get about 26-27 gallons in it. So I am positive that I have only about 31 gallons of fuel in my tank. AND the fuel gauge shows this. It is not showing completely full. How do I get the last 5 gallons in there?

I must have had an air pocket issue when I did the first fill up on the new tank. I went back out to the shop and was able to add about 5 more gallons to the truck by using the provided funnel and my lawnmower gas can. It now shows completely full on the gauge and shows a DTE of 630 miles @ 15.9 mpg. Thanks for all the past posts on how to complete this swap. Now we know we don't necessarily have to buy a whole new pump. You can get by with just the sending unit.

I did my swap but I just need to get with somebody that has forscan in the dfw area. it already a big difference since my truck always has a trailer on it.

Just wanted to give this saga one last update. There IS more than just the sending unit arm length difference in the regular and extended range fuel pumps. The extended range fuel pump is actually taller than the regular pump. The regular fuel pump works and I have driven over 600 miles since the install with no problems. I can even confirm that with as little as 5 gallons of gas in the extended tank the regular pump will work. BUT, I am gonna pull the tank next week and install the extended range pump just because I know it is wrong now. Sorry if I messed anybody up but hey, if you're like me, I love tinkering with my truck so this just gives me another reason to work on it.

Why would the height of the pump matter? Isn't the pickup on the bottom? I'm wondering what the extra height is for.
