Sure hope the OP follows up on what the final fix is. I have had multiple fuel pump failures previously on non Ford vehicles.

Obviously a dead FP leaves you immobile on side of the road, and it's not the easiest fix replacing one.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I plan to preemptively replace my 2016 5.0 FuelP at 150,000. I go places where it might be more a vehicle recovery than simple tow service.

Mechanic said they did a fuel pressure test, it is indeed the fuel pump. 80k (a little less actually) this thing went out. Bummer.......maybe I have a freak accident. I did notice about 2 months ago it runs a little rough at idle. Not sure if that was the writing on the wall.

Oh I was not thinking about this earlier... doesn't the 3.5 EB have an in-tank pump and also a high pressure fuel pump for the direct injectors?

Did your mechanic say which pump it is? I assume in tank or you may have said otherwise.

By 80k I assume you mean 80psi? 80psi out of the lift pump (in tank) is a lot, but 80psi out of the mechanical pump may as well be zero. Do you know which pump is getting replaced?

He means the pump died at 80k miles (not very many by many counts).

The high pressure fuel pump sound daunting in diesel terms, but for the 3.5L the cam driven pump is only around $130 from what I see... and it may be less labor to replace than dropping the fuel tank or removing the bed.

Guess I should have read that more clearly. Yep, 80k is very premature for fuel pump failure, either pump.
