Default Fuel Level Issue

I have a 2017 XLT I bought in Oct. This is my 5th F150 over the years and 2nd one with a 36 gallon tank. The last couple of times I have filled it up after sitting at about a 1/4 tank. The Fuel gauge doesn't move, it stays at 1/4 tank. So my first thought was sticking float in tank, if these even have that. So I got down and kick the tank a few time and the fuel gauge came up to full after that. So the next time it happened was on a trip back from Michigan. Again did that same thing, but this time I didin't have time to mess with it and just went on my way, eventually it went to full. I'm assuming because of driving it and road conditions, pot holes, bumps, etc. So after talking to my ford dealer, he said he couldn't look at it with a full tank and the gauge showing full, I get that. So I let it get back down to a 1/4 tank and took the truck in. So, they tell me today that it is operating within normal specs and it can take up to an hour for the gauge to show full after filling it. I told him I have never experienced that with any of my other trucks on other cars for that matter. And it only started doing it on this truck on the last 2 or 3 fill ups. Needless to say I'm not very happy at this point. The truck is still at the dealer and the service writer is getting back with the tech and said he is going to read up on this. Waiting to see what happens next.

That doesn't sound right. If they decide not to fix it, is there another Ford dealer in your area? Also, take a video next time you fill up showing your fuel gauge for documentation purposes. Sounds like to me you have a faulty fuel sending unit/float and need it replaced.

Dealers are so full of BS--OMG what an idiot, You can watch the fuel gauge move as you fuel it lol.......its all electronic now, I highly doubt there is anything mechanical in the tanks anymore, take it another dealer

Gonna sound funny, just read. I had a truck, don't remember which one, that I filled the tank, while letting the engine run. Same thing, it took forever for the level to come up to full. Shut it down the next time, and all was fine. Said it would sound funny.

My 150 does this. If I leave it running the gage takes a long time to show. With truck shut off it goes straight to full.

I call total on it's within normal spec? I wouldn't accept that explaination because it's flat out LAME!! Dealer needs to fix it or find another dealer. Gas gauge should move freely up and down... Waiting an hour for it to show full? All that's happening is during that time the tank gets jarred and the gauge starts working properly... same as when you are kicking it!

So after talking with service guy again, he still thought this was normal but said that if I wanted they would replace sending unit/float. I told them I did want it replaced. Part on order, said it would take 3 days to get part. Picked up truck tonight, going back in when part gets here.
