Default Frozen tailgate latch

2018 F150 XLT

I was unable to open my tailgate the other day. Seems like the lock unlock actuator wasn't releasing. I had recently washed the truck, but park it inside a heated garage. Once I pulled it back inside the garage for a bit it was working normally again. do the frozen latch recalls 18N03, 20M04 extend to the tailgate?

Has anyone else had issues with the tailgate not opening?

Is it easy to disconnect the tailgate lock mechanism?
I would rather leave it unlocked than risk having it stuck in locked position. Make's it hard to get my Otter Fishing shack out of the box for ice fishing.

I had issues last winter and this winter. This year, I also had one day where it eventually randomly popped open and dropped while I was driving... I have not however tried taking it in because all three dealers I've gone to near me have always ****ed me on stuff like this so, as it only happens a few times a year, I try to just deal with it. I'm interested to see other replies here though

Edit to say the tailgate is the only latch I've had issues with so far.

Yes, I have also had issues with it coming unlatched. Driving down the road, & it unlatches & falls open.

I may need to adjust the passenger side striker bolt. It doesn't seem to be catching/ and fully latching on the passenger side.

Is this an electric tailgate release (button under handle on the tailgate) or a manual one (physical pull-able handle)?

I recently received a notice that my truck is affected by the tailgate recall.

I have also had it pop open while driving.

hopefully the recall resolves all the issues I have been having.

Hi there! Can you send us a private message with your VIN and Ford dealership name? I’d like to look into your frozen tailgate concern on my end. Thanks!

I had this issue the other day, but started to think my tailgate was frozen to my bakflip tonneau cover. Once the weather was warm enough the tailgate opened and I could see moisture under the flap where it was frozen shut.

That happens to me all the time. I just lift the back seal with my finger and then run it across the tailgate lifting the seal the entire width of the gate. Afterwards the tailgate opens right up.
