, Maybe some grief is avoided.
yes I think the same, maybe doesn't help but it doesn't affect nothing IMO too.

Probably doesn't mention it because they figure their techs won't grab hold of the hub or spindle and turn it left to right by hand. The average person might though. It may be how I ruined my epas and now have to replace it. I did just that when changing my coilovers out on more than one occasion.

@52merc SIDE QUESTION: How do you get the CV axle/hub nut cap on without denting the crap out of it? Do you go all round the edges and tap it on?

Otherwise, when I replace my struts, I am going to replace the upper and lower arms at the same time. Will make this job long, but easier and complete.

That is how I would do it.

Why are you removing the axle nut to replace shocks or control arms?

You can put a socket over the cover that is big enough to just catch the rim and tap it on that way. Or jut use a hammer and don't beat the cr@p out of it.

You didn't ask me, but. I walk over to the drawer I keep my larger sockets in, and find one I can insert the cap into and still grab the edge of the cap. Align the cap as best as possible, then tap on the socket with a ballpeen. No muss, no fuss, and no damage. I also remove the cap with a pair of channel locks, gripping just hard enough to twist the cap out.

Looks like Scott and I were replying at the time.
Scott, pulling the nut off allows extra room for the LCA to drop.

This is for my future reference. When I replaced my hubs and compete IWE system I just quickly tapped on that cap and it almost immediately crushed it. (yes....tap it in, just tap it in.) I should have thought about this common tactic but forgot in the heat of the moment.

To note, I bought new ones beforehand and was glad that I did as the originals did not come out easily.
