Default FORSCAN Battery Type setting

My battery was on it's way out, so picked up a Deka 9A48 AGM, 760 CA - 70 AH battery from NAPA. It is replacing a Motorcraft 600 CA Wet Cell battery. When I went into FORSCAN to reset the BSM, I noted the battery type was set to "incorrect or not provided" or something like that. I didn't see an offering for they my Deka AGM, closest thing I saw was an AGM 600 CA - 70 AH - H6. Is that what I should have selected or should I set it to something else?

I would set this:

726-01-01 01xx xxxx xxxx

That is a Motorcraft BAGM-48H6-760, AGM 760CCA 70Ah. A perfect match.

This is just to help you understand
In your Owner Manual, page 376 are the battery specs.
Your truck came OEM with a flooded cell 610 AH battery, the top spec in the box for 5.0 L.
You had to change the battery management program to match the new battery >>and the change to an AGM type with higher AH rating.
You lucked out getting one that matches the Program and noticed the difference.
Do look closer next time you replace parts, because you may not be lucky again.
Good luck.

Interestingly, when editing the battery type, I didn't even see any options for Motorcraft. The list contained a few no-name AGM batteries, something I haven't heard of and some Exide. With that list I thought there would be more I could scroll or page to see, but it didn't seem to offer more. Is this correct or did I miss a functionality?

The "easy read" menus you are in only show some options, and may not work as listed. You are better off to make the changes directly in the Asbuilt in the "advanced" editing area instead of the easy menu area.

My information comes from the Livnitup spreadsheet at the beginning of the FORScan sticky.

These are the three sizes I had written down. Since you have installed an H6 AGM, I agree with 52merc's recommendation.

The reason he listed a Motorcraft battery, is because that is the original size / part number that Ford designed this for. Motorcraft is not actually listed in Forscan afaik.

726-04-01 01XX XXXX XXXX is AGM BAGM-48H6-760 70Ah 110RC 760CCA
726-04-01 02XX XXXX XXXX is AGM BAGM-97H7-800 80Ah 140RC 800CCA
726-04-01 03XX XXXX XXXX is AGM BAGM-49H8-850 140RC 850CCA

You have to remember that FORScan services the European market as well. Those battery options you don't recognize are probably for the EU.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but why do you need to tell the truck there is a new higher capacity battery? What is it doing under the hood? Will it draw too much power with the upgraded battery? I want to go from H6 to H8, but I'm very new to any modification of vehicles.

The BMS controls the charging of the battery. If you don't tell it there is a larger battery it will only charge as if the old battery is there and your new battery won't get fully charged. It is more important if you switch from a FLA to AGM to change battery as AGM use a different changing cycle than FLA.
