Default Ford Sync 3

http://techcrunch.com/2014/12/11/for...tech-platform/

Since it will be rolling out later, does this mean that '15 F150 owners are going to be stuck with a dead platform while next years truck gets the update? Or will Ford be able to upgrade vehicles like the new F150 to use Sync 3?

Quoted from the article "Sadly, since the new Sync runs on a totally different hardware, vehicles that shipped with the old version will not get the new hotness"

I saw that, but was wondering if Ford future-proofed the trucks by building a system capable of running both OSs. Or if they designed it in such a way that you could simply replace a cheap motherboard to upgrade.

I know I'm dreaming, but kinda sucks to get the first of a new generation of trucks but the last of a dying Nav system!

If you read the article, no current sync 2 cannot be updated to sync 3 due to different hardware. No way they put extra time/resources into just one model year to run both.

Yeah. I've got a 2015 on order and it does kinda grind my gears that I'm paying upwards of 55 grand for the lastest generation truck that has already dead technology in it.

Question I have is... will this be on '16 models or will it not arrive until mid model refresh (ie 17/18 model years)

The timing is likely unfortunate for those of us planning to buy a new F150 in the next few years. If Ford sticks to the usual infotainment upgrade model (both Ford's and other auto makers) they'll probably continue to use the old platform in the F150 until it gets a mid-cycle refresh, rolling out the new platform to other models as their interiors or the entire vehicles are refreshed.

I hope this is not the case, I'd love to see the new-and-improved system in the 2016s, and I'd wait for a 2017 if I *KNEW* it would get a new/improved infotainment platform but I wouldn't bet a mortgage payment on seeing the new platform in the new F150 for a couple of model years yet.

Being Ford's biggest selling vehicle I could almost see them justifying it. But that would probably make too much sense. And with the truck being so new, it probably won't make it to the F150 for a while. I'm sure they would like to get more than 1 model year's usage out of the Nav system components.

If you look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Sync
The circuit board that powers Sync only costs $27.80! I know I'm dreaming again, but would be nice if they were smart and future proofed the trucks and for say $150 you could upgrade easily by just swapping out that module.
