I went with the 3.5EB, 10spd, max tow, 3.55 gear, & long WB. Towed 4000 lb last week easily. Plenty of torque. If you know you are going to tow with a F150, get the 3.5EB & max tow.

I've owned a '15 and '16 SuperCrew 4wd with the 2.7 and 3.55 rear gear and I would advise against the 2.7 for towing. Maybe 3.73's would make the difference. Not bashing Ford or the 2.7, just stating my opinion based on a little experience.

I'm trying to figure out what I want as well OP. I was all about going with the 5.0, but the more I read the more uncertain I become. They have exactly what I want at a local dealer, but it is an EB and I just can't decide.

If you weren't happy with the 5.3 you may not be happy with the 5.0 Ford either. The 3.5 EB has more torque at a lower RPM so you wouldn't have to gear down as much with the 3.5. I don't know what year of a 5.3 you had but one of the Chevy Engineers told me when towing and you start to go up a hill and it drops to about 55 mph drop it into 2nd with the 4 speed and bring the RPM's up to 3700 to 4000 and it will do that all day. I had the truck for 140000 miles and it worked great at those RPM's and I never had a problem because of it. I had 3.73 gears but those are hard to get now.

Drive both. It will be a no brainer, especially if you tow.

dont forget super duty trucks
if you tow alot and want the untapped power, i would encourage you to look at the super duty.
it doesnt have to be a F450 DRW Platinum for 80K- a F250 XLT can meet the requirements you desire

Just sold my 07 GMC Duramax. I put only 30k miles in almost 7 years. I have a work truck that I drive everyday. I don't tow Alot but like to have the option. This new truck will also act as a second family vehicle to keep the miles on my wife's vehicle from building up so fast. I want something that we can even drive on vacation if we choose. I've read in the past that the v8 even got better fuel mileage than the EB. I'm not sure if that still holds true with the addition of the 10 speed transmission.

Thanks guys, always good feedback and dialogue. As I expected, the 3.5EB is the way to go. Granted, the super duty is an option, but overall that's too much truck. Going with the 3.5EB, lariat 502A, and will do a slight lift with wheels and tires. Decision made.. Thanks again!

That's what I have: 2016 3.5 EB, lariat, 502A, max tow, loaded to the gills (except the tech package).

Couldn't be happier with it!

I am adding, however, adaptive cruise, lane keeping and park assist.

I've got adaptive cruise installed and after using it, can highly recommend it if you do any real amount of highway miles. I find it a major stress reliever in highway traffic.

Lane assist is just because I can and park assist is just a couple sensors once lane assist is installed.
