Default Folding Bed Extender

Does anyone have the OEM Folding Bed Extender on their 2015? I'm thinking about getting one and was wondering how those of you who have it like it. It looks like it may block the bed lights when folded, but obviously it can be moved. I'm also putting a Bed Rug bed mat in and I'm wondering if that will interfere with the extender.

There have been quite a few posts on here about the "best" bed extender and it seems most prefer the OEM version.

I have the 2015 with the folding bed extender... honestly its 50/50.

Pros
It does fold up to take minimal space
works as designed and like any other

cons
Hard to remove (unless someone is smarter than me)
hard to turn on bed light
obstructs bed lighting

If it would pop on and off like a traditional I would love it.
I have a Truck bed tent and it still works even with the bed extenders but it makes it a little interesting to set up my tent but it can be done.

Do I like it...Yes....but I wish I could remove it at will.

I have the OEM bed extender and OEM bed mat. Love them both. In my opinion the bed extender does not interfere with the illumination of the bed at all but I do have to reach around behind it to turn the lights on when it is folded and locked down. I also have a bedcover so when it is fully closed it is a little bit more of a hassle to turn the lights on but not impossible. I highly recommend the OEM extender as the folding option is awesome compared to previous years and other extenders as you don't have to take it completely out to use the full length of the bed with the tailgate closed. Honestly I've used it more partially opened on one side as a "holder" so smaller items don't move around or fall over (like the gas can in the picture). As for the bed mat, it does not affect the extender in any way. I am able to lock the extender to the sides with the mat installed. I'm sure that's the same with any other good quality name brand rubber mat but I went OEM because I thought the design and the F150 stamped in it looked cooler than aftermarket ones and was worth the extra $30.

I have it and I like it. I honestly would not have opted for it but it was in the truck I purchased and now I'm glad it was. I especially like that it can be flipped in either direction so you can use it as a bed extender or flip it in and use it as a bed divider. I use it as a divider flipped in all the time.

I think I'd like to use it as a bed divider more than anything, but I just can't justify the price tag.

Thanks. That's a lot of great info and really helps with my decision to get one. I was hoping it didn't effect the lighting too much. I have a Bed Rug bed mat waiting to go into the truck when my Bak Flip VP tonneau comes in this week. Awesome info.

I will most likely do the same for the divider. I had a divider in my Tacoma before I traded it in for the F150. That divider was a pita though, had to remove it any time I needed to put something long into the truck. At least with this one it folds out of the way. Great info, thanks.

I ordered mine from the factory with the foldable bed extender. It does not block the lighting output, though you do have to reach over the side and in between the bed and bed extender to find the switch.
Regardless, it is useful in extending the bed, especially on my 5.5ft box, and grocery mode (when its flipped back inward) is useful to prevent things from rolling towards the front and trying to retrieve them.
When stowed, the bed extender panels, are exactly as wide as the wheel wells so they do not limit the width of items you can carry.

Installed. I agree with the comments above. Even though the bottom of the bed lights are obstructed when the bed extender is folded, I don't see a big difference in the amount of light in the bed. You do have to reach over the extender to get to the switch, or use the switch in the cab. No biggie really. Relatively easy to install. I did have to go buy a T50 socket. That cost me a whole 2 dollars.

Tried to get a couple of pics to show the bed extender in the folded and open positions and how much the bed lights are affected. It was not completely dark outside yet but it was dusk and the sun was behind my house. As you can see, there really is very little light obstruction. And it really is not difficult at all to reach the switch in the bed.
