Default Flowmaster

Hey all,
New to this site and really enjoy reading about all the stuff here.
Just purchased a 2016 F150 with 5.0L v8.
Wanted a little more aggressive sound than stock muffler but not so much as to wake up the neighbors. Guy a the muffler shop suggested the Flowmaster 50 series, three chamber. Had just the muffler installed, not entire exhaust system.
Only thing I'm not liking is the sound when mainly in prolonged higher rpm 2nd gear and lower rpm 3rd gear. The "noise" is fine, I guess you would call it the pitch is what is somewhat annoying. I think if the pitch were a little lower it would be fine. Is this what drone is? It doesn't happen while just cruising, sounds fine.
Guy at muffler shop said try giving it a few days for computers to adjust.
Also suggested to just get out of those gears faster to avoid. I want to just to drive and enjoy the sound.
Anyone else experience this? Is it a Flowmaster thing? What moderate sounding mufflers are other running and are happy with?
Hope all this makes sense. Thanks.

I was in the same boat with my 2015. I decided to stay with the stock muffler set up

I did a lot of reading, YouTube viewing, and calling around, like Borla, FlowMaster, Magnaflow, and others. Drone was one thing I did not want to deal with. I also have in the past, tried to get by, just swapping out the muffler. Never had much luck going that route. So on my '15 5.0, I went with a Magnaflow 19080 cat-back, leaving the resonator in place. No drone, nice purr at idle, slightly aggressive with moderate acceleration, and on wide open acceleration it really wakes up.

I've had flow masters on 3 previous trucks, and they do seem to sound better as they break in. I don't know if this is due to carbon build up that changes the sound or its just all in my head...

I had a flowmaster super 50 installed last week, stock resonator and muffler removed. I love the sound but the wife thinks it's too loud when accelerating. Going back next week to have a 3"x 18" resonator installed. Stock resonator was 2.5. No noticeable drone at highway speeds, just too loud when taking off.

Left the stock resonator on mine. No drone at highway speeds.
Was driving tonight and seems like the drone occurs while accelerating after the engine warms up. Does that make sense? Is the transmission shifting differently?
So, without the resonator is it just loud while accelerating or dreaded drone?
Thanks

It's just too loud. No drone.
I had flowmaster 40's on a Chevy years ago and the drone was terrible. Had a super 50 on my '05 and now on the '16 neither have the drone.
