Tried it a few times with same results, and waited for the dash to go dark each time, but the power is still active to the GPS and the USB, so will wait another 15 or so minutes for the entire truck to power down and try again. First time I tried the door was open, so maybe that was it. Apparently all power must be off when doing it, so will see if thats the case.
Those with the big productivity screen need to press and hold ok, then start the truck. Make sure you hold the OK until the engineering menu appears.

How would you go about the hand calc? # of miles divided by gallons you added in the tank?

Figured it out, you release the OK button when the ACC screen comes up, the gauges go wacky and buzz, then start the truck and it goes into EM at that point. So on the 502a and up it appears that the steps are slightly different. Dash must dark, hold OK, press start, wait for the Acc screen to come up, release OK, gauges buzz, press brake pedal fully and start. Thats how it worked on mine, now for the real test, did it actually correct the MPG. Will know in a while. Thanks for this thread, one of my biggest pet peeves on all vehicles is the LOM.

I wonder if our trucks LOM is made to run off Ethanol free gas? The reason I ask is the EPA says that a E10 blend (10% Ethanol) is supposed to drop our mileage 3.7% and 20% blend, roughly 7.3% drop in mileage.

People have reported 3-10% drop in mileage with E-10 and I wonder if it depends on where you get your gas. It would not shock me if some stations are above 10% Ethanol and some closer to 20%. What is bad is our trucks are only rated to run on 15% or less. So some shady stations could be hurting our engines.

One plus for the flex fuel 5.0s.

Now be prepared to deal with the psychological impact of an instantaneous loss of 1 mpg.

I have a Scanguage, so I'm use to observing the correct fuel mileage. After doing the fix a couple of days ago, I found myself glancing at the LOM, then going back to the scanguage to make sure is was close. You wouldn't think the loss of 1 mpg would be that "alarming" at first. After a 400 mile trip, I'm used to it , but it took a couple of days for my mind to adjust.

I'm a Fuelly addict so all my vehicles are documented on Fuelly for MPG, so I know the true MPG of this truck and that the LOM is at LEAST 1 MPG off if not more. I see it at 18.9 and know it will come out to 17.9, so at least now I hope the truck stops lying to me.

OP, Did you put in your lifetime average, or just the last tank? I have the hand-calculated MPG number(miles between fill-ups divided by gallons the pump reported putting in), as well as the # of gallons pumped, cost per gallon, and odometer reading for every tank since new, so I have all sorts of data points.

On a side note, I will do this this weekend, because my LOM is off by at least 2 gallons on a 25-29 gallon fill-up (36 gallon tank), and at least 1 MPG (closer to 1.5). It's always optimistic.

Since it's so far off, I'd love it if it were closer!

There are still some variables between the LOM and my Scanguage. But the largest spread so far has been .4 mpg. It's usually as close as .1.
