Default first post and question about interior noises

Hello all,
this is my first post and wanted to say hello. Just bought a new 2019 lariat fx4 and really liking it so far. I've noticed though some slight cracking/snapping sounds whenever I go over any bumps that appear to be coming from the plastic dash face trim and console pieces near the gear shift and cupholders. I can replicate the sounds when applying some pressure to the areas with my fingers. Should it be making these sounds over bumps or at all? They are not terribly loud, but its frequent and noticeable so wanted to see what you all thought. Thanks!

Hello, I am unfortunately dealing with the same exact thing and it has been very disheartening when I just bought this truck. Literally a week after I took it off the lot, it all started. I notice it gets progressively worse when it's hot out. My friend who has the same body style and sport package doesn't deal with it at all so its not consistent with all of them. I have a 2019 XL with the Off-road + STX package. I notice the noise not only comes from the dash plastic but also the center counsel plastic. It also gets very exaggerated in the heat, typically when the truck sits in the sun or is over 75 degrees out which is most days in NC. This is a very unfortunate experience so far and the dealer said they would take a look at it and tighten everything but I also have concerns about a service tech ripping the dash apart and only making it worse on a vehicle with under 1,800 miles. I am sorry you are dealing with this as well and if you have positive solutions, let me know. I had an escape half the price of this truck that was quiet with 80k miles on it...

Wow. I was hoping this was normal and that there is a break in period or something. I did notice it was worse this afternoon with the heat today. Also seemed to be coming from other areas that just the dash and console. I don't know much about the assembly/manufacturing process, but just don't get how these issues could be isolated incidences. Regardless, if this is not something that will work itself out, I am not too optimistic about the chances of an acceptable fix..

My 2019 Limited presented the same issues and noises so whether you have a more heavily optioned F-150 or not won't matter. I've already faced mid 90's in the scorching Florida sun where my interior was probably well over 150 degrees when opening my doors. It's also true that when hotter it brings up more noises but IMO, it does get better over time. Six months into my ownership and I believe the annoying creaks and rattles have reduced tremendously - maybe by 90%. It's regretful to say this but a quick fix that helped immediately reduce these noises was shoving my right leg hard against the center console pressuring it which would "maybe lock into place" thereby stopping the expansion rattles.

I wouldn't bring it into the dealer for them to possibly tear apart and open the center console, nav screen or otherwise as I believe it would only exacerbate the issues and bring up more gremlins.

Welcome to the F150Forum and good luck!

So first off, it is a truck, it’s gonna rattle and creek right off the lot. Secondly, Ford CAN eliminate those noises, they have an entire team of people dedicated to Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH).

That being said, it’s probably counterproductive for them to care that much about eliminating all creeks in all of their trucks, because most people simply don’t care or have their radios up and simply don’t hear it.

Like I said though, you can get those sounds eliminated, and you have every right to have a quiet truck - you paid a lot of money for it. I don’t think your standard, run-of-the-mill oil changer at your local dealership will be of much help, but someone at the dealership should be able to fix you up. I’d talk with the service manager directly about your concerns, and see to it that he drives it with you. There’s a really good chance he’ll take your concerns seriously and pay a top tech to work with Ford corporate (someone from NVH team) directly to fix your issue, or quite possibly there are already articles published that he can follow.

In either event, if you’re truly not happy, talk with the service manager - that’s what they’re there for - and that’s a good place to start, in my opinion.

F150-LT and deapee,
thank you all for the info. That does make me feel better about it. Really loving everything else about the truck so far. I’m moving from tn to south Louisiana in a couple months so seems like it may be best to allow it time to adjust with the heat and then bring it to a dealer if it doesn’t improve and still bothers me. Thanks again

Guys, those creaks around the cup holders are common across the board and can be solved in ten minutes.

Don't be intimidated by removing a panel or waste your time with the dealer.

The cup holder/floor console is all one piece and will pop off with no tools required. You can permanently eliminate the squeak or creaking at the cup holder in 10 minutes.

Private message me and I'll walk you thru it.
No you shouldn't have to do this, and no you won't make things worse.

Thanks masi1926. So now I also have a rattle/knocking coming from my dash or maybe the steering column. Thinking I might as well go ahead and bring it in now and get the process started.

Mine creaks like crazy, my 14 didn’t. Comes from instrument cluster mainly. I figured it’s fixable it’s just one of those too lazy to go after it things.

I'm lucky with this truck that it was only in the console. The previous ones got bad as time went on.

What I did, if you can. Was pop off whatever is squeaky and stick a small piece of Velcro (soft side) to that area and it did the trick.

The door panels in my 05 and 10 used to creak badly. I traced a line around the door panel and ran a strip of Velcro (soft side) to the door itself and the panels went back on nice and tight.
