Having an issue with running a cold air on my 18 Coyote. Any time the airbox is bolted to the inner fender there is vibration under moderate to heavy load that seems to start at the base of the windshield then travels up into the driver's side A pillar and then headliner. I have searched and read every post and every proposed solution hasn't done a darn thing.
At its worst, around 3k rpm there is almost a metal on metal rattle sound from the A pillar.
I have tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling both JLT and Airaid several times. I do not think any hose clamps are too tight.
Soft rubber washers where the airbox bolts to the fender.
Removing the A pillar cover and did not find anything that should be rattling.
Gorilla tape and foam where the windshield cowl meets the wiper tray.
Removed and reinstalled windshield wipers + checked wiper bracket torque.
Inspected 98% of the engine bay for anything loose.
Inspected the driver's side headlight, wheel well liner, flare, towing mirror.
Inspected the dashboard, driver's side vents, steering column, switch panels, door panel, etc.
This is with both the JLT and Airaid MXP, oem and VMP tunes. I have not reinstalled the factory intake.
Currently the Airaid airbox is held in place with some thick foam and there is ZERO vibration in the cab. If attached to the fender it is so bad the knock sensor is pulling 2 degrees around 3k RPM where it is normally adding 5.5.
First thing I would do is reinstall the factory box and see if it still does it. If it doesn't you know its the CAI if it does then it has to be something caused during the original disassembly to install the first CAI. I know gen 3 sensors are ridiculously over sensitive and cause a lot of grief with tuning but I cant imagine a plastic CAI box could cause enough vibration to set off the knock sensors. If anything I would think that the CAI might be causing some odd harmonics with the intake air causing a distortion in air turbulence that translates to an undesirable vibration.
Considering a CAI buys you nothing until you make substantial engine enhancements (bigger turbos, etc.) I'd reinstall the OEM, sell the CAI, and be happy.
