Default Failed water pump

Truck has been making a loud squealing noise when cold and only lasts for a few minutes. I loosened the serpentine belt to check the pulley's and sure enough the water pump was the culprit. It has a plastic turbine on the inside. Come on Ford, you can do better. My new pump came with an aluminum turbine. It wasn't too bad of a job to replace, but my truck only has 49,000 miles. This has become the truck that I love to hate.

All vehicles may have a water pump go bad.

I think you are the first to report a water pump failure at 49k.

Any maintenance been done to the cooling system through the years?

I got just over double that mileage. I'm waiting for my truck to be fixed after a complete Coyote water pump failure while plowing last week. After reading around, I thought maybe it was the Coolant diverter tee, but poured some coolant in to see if I could limp it home (80 miles from home) and it all poured out on the ground under the balancer. That plan foiled. So, I limped it over about a mile to the dealership (still under CPO warranty at 99,000 miles) and driving the Ranger until then. Hope it doesn't snow sine I lost mu plow, this is the first time a Ford has left me stranded on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. Been 34 years and 20+ vehicles, so I'm still happy with my Fords, thats a hell of a record since I'm on the road for work every day, between 50-250 miles.

Default 2019 5.0 water pump failing

Currently at 70K miles. Truck was a rental before I bought it so I’m doing some scheduled maintenance early. Replaced the belts and the water pump pulley is pretty sloppy (moves in and out over 1/8” and up and down a little). Saw some posts that this is a frequent failure when over 100K miles. Not leaking or making weird noises but I may change it soonish. Thoughts?

No idea why you think it makes any difference what the turbine is made of. The plastic turbine is lighter than metal and will last just as long. It's the shaft bearing that wears out.

Water pump issues seem to be hit and miss. some have none others go thru several. Having said that, I replaced mine at 137K (2013 5.0) as a matter of maintenance since its a daily driver and a road vehicle for us. Once off, it looked and felt like it could go another 100K. Peace of mind since there are the many reports of failure. Do what makes you feel comfortable!

Lol. My 21 year old Lightning is still rocking the OEM pump at 210K miles. I have had to replace the sorry Bosch I/C pump though.

Pump failure is why I wanted my wife to trade in her Taurus, and get her new (to her) F150 with a 3.5L. If F150 water pump fails, then replace it. If transversely mounted 3.5L Duratec or EB waterpump fails you better start praying, as it takes a big coolant dump right into the crankcase. It's weep hole that's supposed to vent leaking coolant, and show that there's a coolant leak is pathetic. It's ashame as the 3.5L Duratec engine are pretty bulletproof otherwise. The waterpump mounted inside the their timing cover is their one real flaw, but it's a big flaw, and a stupid one as it's unnecessary. Engineer an external wayer pump. Other FWD vehicles manage to do it.
