I bought my truck with a single key. I looked high and low for the other key . Had another made at a locksmith, $225. The original owner of my truck was deported.

That wasn't the focus of my post. It was solely about not needing to worry about a lost key.

Two keys is not enough. If you only have two, and lose one, you pay a boatload to get a replacement. This is why many used vehicles only come with one key. New cars come with two keys. Almost no one gets a third key made. When one is lost, and they find out it costs $300 to get a new one made, they stick it out with the one until they sell the vehicle.

If you have two keys, you can program one with the vehicle. Only need to purchase the fob ($50 for 2015 w/remote start) and get it cut.

That's where mine is; the manual tells you how to use that to set different codes.

I just picked up a current fob with blank key for $59 on ebay. I'll program the fob myself, leave the key blank, and stow in the safe just in case I lose one. If I don't, when I sell the truck, I'll put the fob back on ebay and get my money back.

Good idea, but if you keep your vehicles any length of time, the FOB will be about $20 new, $10 used.
