You could just bring a battery powered radio along (assuming you can find or buy one that is)

 

Shouldn't be too hard to find one. I bought a new one just about a year or so ago at WalMart, just to keep in the basement and monitor local stations during tornado season, in the event of a power outage. And with the season that we've had this year, it's probably not a bad idea, along with all the other related items.
