I have a13 as well. At 125000 it’s been great. Almost bought another 13 with a 6.2L and 23k miles a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it was undercoated with the rubber stuff and starting to rust.

I have a 2016 5.0 with 80,000 miles on it and it's been a good truck. I did have the IMRC failure (before it was a common) and torque converter shudder. I have ESP and the dealer changed the torque converter but there's plenty of folks here who had the same problem and fixed it with a fluid and filter change. As others have said the 6R80 seems to like fluid changes every 50K-60K miles. The 5.0 has been flawless. It was a noisy engine when I first got it but as time and miles added up got quieter and is very smooth at idle now. The leaf springs made a creaking sound when making turns sometimes but that went away on its own. There was also a bump feeling when you would come to a stop and seemed to be common on F-150s but that also went away on it's own. This is the first vehicle I've had that really needed time to fully break in. And even though it's been 7 years since I bought it the sound of the 5.0 when my foot is down still puts a smile on my face. My truck has been good to me and I would recommend buying a 2015-2017 F-150 to anybody.

Supposedly the sync 3 issues were mostly for 16-17 models. I am currently doing an upgrade from the sync 3 four inch screen in my 2018 to a sync 3 eight inch screen. The guy I bought the APIM and screen from said he will only use APIMs from 18 and up because they supposedly they cured the reliability issues, or at least fixed a lot of it. Its been an adventure so far, but I'm getting there. I'm waiting on a conversion cable as he was kind of vague on what I needed, and I bought the wrong one. I have the 8" installed and can stream music from my phone, but it acts like there is no antenna connected. He said it's all due to the cable I have ordered, and all will be good once it's installed probably midweek.

Thanks for the replies guys. Really appreciate it. He’s in my previous DD now, an ‘02 2500HD 6.0 gas / 4L80E at 200,000 miles. It’s been a great truck, looking for that same reliability in an aluminum body Ford.

I see some trucks have "2-speed Automatic 4wd" (Lariat and up I think). Has that transfer case been proven reliable / issue free, or should it be avoided (stick to XLT)?

I haven't heard of any issues with them personally. If it helps, one of my other Fords, a 2006 Explorer V8, has fully automatic 4wd with low range. Basically, it doesn't have a 2wd setting, it is Auto 4WD, 4H and 4L.

202,000 miles now, still works flawlessly.

I have a 2016 5.0 with almost 90k miles I bought new. I had a few sync issues the first 3-4 years, the screen would just randomly turn off and back on again. Or it would freeze and would need a hard reset (push and hold the volume and seek forward button simultaneously for 6 seconds). It was just more of an inconvenience than anything else, and hasn't given me any issues is 2-3 years now. Water pump failed around 80k miles, that was a quick 1.5 hour fix in the garage with a buddy.

Other than that, it's been a SOLID truck that I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. I paid it off in 2020 and plan on keeping it for quite a while.

That seems just a little high, considering current interest rates, unless maybe it’s a lariat or platinum crew cab. With that said… a new xlt crew is probably around 60k so it’s definitely better than paying 60k. My 2013 xlt high optioned crew cab was $34k brand new in April of 2013. My buddy bought one the same day but a different color. He was hit head on a few months ago and insurance paid him $25k. His truck had about 40k. If you like it and are happy with it then it would be a great low mileage truck. My 13 has 125k and only replaced the water pump and brake hoses and calipers.
