Default Exhaust Help Needed

After hearing people's complaints about the 3.5 Eco sounding too "riced-out" with exhaust system upgrades or resonator deletes, I decided to leave mine alone. Then my wife bought her 2018 Explorer Sport with the same engine and, somehow, it sounds throatier and meaner than my truck. That is something this dude cannot abide.

So I need some assistance from my brothers-in-arms of F150Forum.

My dilemma is that I live in the Democratic People's Republic of Massachusetts, where modifications to the stock exhaust system are technically illegal and won't pass annual state inspection. This rules out the Borla ATAK cat-back system I was eyeing. What combinations of muffler and resonator vs. resonator delete have people put together, and how satisfied have you been with the outcome? I don't expect the muscle car V8 exhaust note, I know I drive a V6, but I'd love to get a little extra rumble at startup and a louder, deeper tone under acceleration. Links to youtube videos showcasing the sound will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for the help.

And... GO!

I have a corsa sport setup that I added an MBRP resonator to and it sounds meaner than stock but no drone and not annoying for the neighbors.

You try youtube? Over a million F150 exhaust videos on there....literally. But as the above poster mentioned, you cannot go wrong with Corsa anything.

Wait until she's asleep, then go swap out the exhaust between your vehicles!

Hahaha. She'd probably notice the next morning when the exhaust is sticking 3 feet past her rear bumper.

You sure it's actual exhaust tone you are chasing and not augmented engine noise. Ford makes "improvements" on their augmented engine noise enhancements between vehicle years and models/trims. That would explain why each sounds different.

Nope. The sport package on the lower trim levels comes with the 2.7, but the Sport trim level comes with the 3.5.

Yeah, I'm sure it's the exhaust note. The sound I am referring to is outside the vehicle, not in the cabin.

I think part of it is, Ford is probably using the same resonator and muffler on the 5.0 and 3.5eb. They're definitely not tuned for sound.

The other thing is, most companies, like Borla, are masters at V8 sound. The turbo v6 thing is new to them. Few put the sound engineering in to making them sound good like Japanese and german companies do with turbocharged v6's and the like.

I've gone on American Trucks and really like the sound of the Heartthrob 4" cat back.
