Default To ESP or not to ESP

That is the question.

I've got a 2018 Lariat 501A I love, but don't trust nearly as much as some of my previous vehicles. I'm coming up on three years of ownership in May, and have little over 30k miles, and am wondering whether if it's finally time to pull the trigger on a Flood Ford extended warranty. I'm thinking my own personal peace of mind could make it worth it, but I'm guessing I might get money back on the purchase anyway when it comes time to resell?

A "PremiumCare" warranty for 100k miles for 8 years at a $200 deductible is $1350. Say I list my truck at six years with 75k miles. Having the remaining 2 year 25k near bumper-to-bumper warranty seems like it'd be worth $500-750 right?

I would buy it for my own peace of mind, but no higher than the 50 deduct. These trucks, regardless of its current no issue condition, can go south at anytime and be costly.

Keep in mind that the warranty period of the ESP starts on the original date of purchase of the vehicle. I would expect that you would only see a couple of hundred dollars at best after everything is prorated out.

I am coming up on 2 years of ownership and still under 20K miles. I will be buying an ESP for my truck. It has had a few issues that hopefully have been taken care of. But parts and service prices being what they are it wouldn't be unheard of to have one service on the truck justify the price of the ESP cost. Others will not agree with my view, and I don't really care. To me the downside is that when that aftermarket bug hits me I have to reel in my desire to play. No the other hand, maybe that's no all bad either.

Having been ASE certified, I would have never purchased and ESP warranty...UNTIL NOW.

Being retired now and too old to spin a wrench, I bought a 2020 F150 ecoboost. With the turbos, computers, electronics, 4x4, sensors, etc, etc, etc, I decided it was time to opt for the extended warranty. Too much “stuff” to go wrong.

I got the ESP premium plan with $200 deductible. It’s the 7 year, 100,000 miles version for $1200+. Hope I never need to use it. 😃😃😃

Having owned various f150s as well as other brands, I’ve found fords to be the most solid and reliable. My first car was a 1959 ford galaxie that I paid $135 for, drive it two years, and it only ever needed a new battery. It was so rusty that the snow would blow in through the floor boards all winter. Ha.

With all the electronics on these trucks its a no brainer to get the warranty--one time will pay for it!!!

I'm sure this ESP thread will include valuable information not brought up in any other ESP thread...

I never buy extended warranties. That said, I bought one for my recent 2020 XLT, given all the electronics and how the electronics control the engine, tranny, remote start, even vehicle access via fob or door codes.
Paid $1750 for 8yrs/100K w/ 1st day rental, lighting, and key replacement. $100 deduct. Went through Greenfield Ford (MA) Ford. Troy Dietrich (tdietrich@fd-warranty.com ; http://www.fd-warranty.com/ is the POC. Good to deal with. Low pressure. Very flexible. I recommend them.

Flood, Ziegler, Greenfield, and others also offer deep discounts compared to many other dealers, as they prefer to make money on volume rather than going well above MSRP. Shop around and good luck!

It’s a personal choice based on your money and your truck.

They obviously make money on them, so keep that in mind. I’m 3-3 on extended warrantys being worth it so I keep buying them.

id suggest $0 deductible....look at the price difference between $0 and $200 deductible, I’d bet 2 visits into a Ford and you’d be at a loss just based on that.
