Errors After Replacing Front Hub Assembly

I thought I was all set with a very smooth job of replacing the front, drivers' side wheel hub assembly. Unfortunately, when I started the truck, error lights came on: ABS (stays on), Hill Descent Control Fault, Service Advance Trac.

Here's the background: There was a whirling noise coming from the drivers' side front, and I suspected it was the hub assembly even through there was no movement when I tried to move the tire with hands positioned on at 6:00 / 12:00, then 3:00 / 9:00 (while the tire was off the ground). I'm sharing this because the noise was the only symptom, so there was not an issue with ABS/Hill Descent/Advance Trac until after I performed the work.

Yes, I plugged in the sensor wire. By the way, the new hub assembly came with a sensor wire that looked like an exact match for my vehicle (connector fit, and it had several mounting components along the wire that fit perfectly).

I don't think it matters, but I also replaced the brake caliper (but kept the existing pads and disc).

Any thoughts about wire the warning lights are on? My ego tells me I have the wrong part (or its defective), but I suspect I did something wrong. I would appreciate any ideas. Thank you.

Have you driven the truck yet? Have you disconnected and reconnected the battery, or had the codes cleared at the parts store when you test drove the vehicle?
Perhaps you made the computer angry by replacing one of the parts with a vent connection to the central processing unit.
You did not at all specify you drove the vehicle, therefore I assume you started it and never moved it based on your description.

Now that I've offered some semi-useful info I need to beckon @johnday in BFE as you made a point of his... .calling a hub that belongs on the front a "front hub". :) sorry, couldn't pass that up.

The only thing I can think of that might have gotten screwed up, is if the sensor wires got kinked, and possibly broken. Sounds hard to do that, but is a possibility.
Now, these trucks have electronics that find great joy in throwing out codes and stuff, for no apparent reason
Case in point, bear with me. My 2020 gear position on the console came with no light, so, I scored the whole OEM setup from another member. I didn't have the connector for it in the console, so I ran a feed from the dashlight feed behind the light switch, worked great. A few hours later I took off, and tried to set my cruise, didn't work. Out of desperation, I did a KAM reset, everything back to normal. What anything I did had to do with cruise, I've no idea. Fooking electronics!!! Since then, I've also cleared DTC's that came on from something as simple as hooking up grille lights.
I guess what I'm suggesting is try a KAM reset, it's free, takes 15 minutes, and it just might solve what ever could have caused the lights, notice, DTCs, or whatever to be on.
Doing this will also reset your shift strategy until the truck relearns your driving habits, throttle sensitivity may be affected, and you might have to redo your radio presets, clock etc.
KAM, Keep Alive Memory. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, turn on your lights to drain any residual power in various modules, etc. Let sit for about 15 minutes. Turn lights off, and reconnect negative terminal. You might hear some weird noises, and lights might even flash. Then drive it. Other than that, it's all I can think of, except it's something electronic.;)

Thank you. My next step is to switch the new wire with the old one. It doesn’t sound like big deal to do the KAM, so I might as well give that a shot before I even pull off the wheel. Thanks again.

No problem at all, and yes, that's what I'd try before anything else.
As another thought. It seems almost anything on these trucks, except maybe rotating tires, Ford recommends disconnecting the negative terminal.

If the codes that were set were read, you would have an idea what the issue is from the code descriptions.
They never lie! That is why codes are designed into the system and set when a fault is detected.
Good luck.

Did you happen to move steering while the truck was off the ground? Manipulating the steering while the key is off and battery still hooked up can confuse and sometimes mess up the PSCM(power steering control module). I would clear codes with a good scanner and see if they return afterwards.

Still an Issue

Thank you all for your insights. Unfortunately, the truck continues to show the warning lights. Here’s an update and more info.

There are no codes showing on my code reader. The warning lights/messages are on the dash display.

I did move the steering wheel while the wheel was off (to remove one of the bolts for the hub assembly). I may have turned the power on or started the truck when I turned the steering wheel.

I have driven the truck, and the warning messages to show.

my original effort to change the hub assembly came to a grinding halt last week when I realized that the parts store gave me the wrong part. Just getting the correct part was a challenge (online suppliers show product in stock, then cancel the order when they realize that it’s out of stock). Auto Zone failed online and in the store. anyway, I reinstalled the original hub while I wanted for a new one to arrive, and the truck did not show the warning messages I am receiving now, with the new hub assembly.

Action taken: I turned on the headlights and disconnected the negative battery terminal. Truck sat that way for 20 minutes. This did not change the warning messages.

I would really appreciate any other ideas. In the meantime, I’m going to pull off the new hub and switch out the new sensor and with the original one.

thanks again.

Dagnabbit! I was really hoping that KAM reset would work for you. Hate to ask, but what brand hub assembly did you get? Not sure, but does AZ sell OEM Ford hubs? I know an OEM is gonna run around $220 last I saw, may be able to get an OEM on ebay, worth a look.
When doing things like this, Myself, I always use OEM for the hubs and IWEs, I've been burned than once, especially using Dorman parts.
Please let us know if the original sensor takes care of the problem again.

Still Having Issue

I just switched out sensors, and I’m still receiving the warning lights. I’m going to put it back together with the new sensor.

when I run into trouble with finding parts, my wife comes to the rescue. She’s away, and I don’t have the details on the part and there isn’t any paperwork in the box. The hub assembly came from Canada.

Any other ideas?

Does anyone have a reliable source for OEM part number for the hub assembly (drivers side)? Im starting to think that the part is either defective or it’s the wrong one.

Thank you.

No fault codes. I hit the erase button anyway.
