Engine rattle under acceleration
2019 5.0 has a rattling noise under acceleration, doesn't do this all the time but it sounds like the timing chain or something like that. Anyone had any issues like this. Thanks for any suggestions.
Here are two possibilities which I have experienced. 1) A common problem with this engine is a rattle during acceleration or deceleration when the engine is cold. Usually happens after it has sat over night. It has to do with the variable cam timing, vct. 2) if what you are hearing sounds like marbles rattling during acceleration, it could be pre-ignition. Sometimes happens when using 87 octane and it’s a hot day or you are towing. I was intermittently experiencing that when towing and it stopped after switching to 93 octane. I do like the performance boost after switching too.
Thanks for your reply Ford-less. I did start running 93 octane gas because it did sound like a spark knock and I thought that was the issue for a while but it still does it some, I'm wondering if the tsb 18- 2354 for the 2018 would be used on the 2019. I'm going to have to check with the dealer. First Ford I have ever owned and I am really disappointed with it.

If this is such a common problem with the 5.0l v-8s, then why don't they recall the engines and fix them as any responsible manufacturer should?

I've also started using the 93 octane, but it hasn't resolved the rattle. Haven't checked mileage, but I would expect some improvement. Regardless, Ford needs to step up and fix this flaw in their engines. I've owned three Ford pick-ups and the first two were excellent. In fact, my son now drives my 1999 Lariat with the Triton engine, and it has nearly 200,000 miles on it with zero mechanical issues. This latest iteration of their workhorse motor is clearly flawed, and Ford has been aware of the flaws for some time. Procrastinating on fixing the problems does nothing for future sales.
