Default engine issues - resolved

Thursday, 7-19-19, as I was driving back to the office from lunch when something in my F150 went awry!

It’s like somebody flipped a switch. The little engine light in the cluster started blinking, the truck started shaking violently, running rough, it would not go above 20 MPH, the air-conditioner quit, it stunk very strongly of a exhaust and it puffs solid white smoke out the tail pipe. I stopped on the side of the road and it dies. I about not got it started again. At this point I have zero clue what is happening.

I called my dealer and let them know what was up. They sent a 2019 loaner on a flatbed to me 100 miles out and took mine back.

This morning they tell me it was the #2 fuel injector and will have it fixed tomorrow. I have 2017 F150 XLT with 67K miles on a 3.5 EB.

did you happen to pull your dipstick?
Just wondering if it flooded your oilpan with gasoline.

Not sure what else would cause it to blow that much smoke out the exhaust.
Will they replace the catalytic converter as well?

My initial impression of your story is that is a fantastic dealer to send you a '19 loaner on a flatbed 100 miles away and take yours back in at the same time.

Agreed. Very sorry about your truck and I hope it gets fixed to your liking. That dealership service department is awesome.

Honestly, I didn't really think about it at the time. I should have. I'm not sure about the cat. I'll ask when it's finished.

hmm - the smoke is interesting - I though. I wonder if that's from fuel pouring though the hot turbo.

IE injector let go - pumps say pint of fuel into the cylinder - cylinder still opened and closes so fuel pushes out the exhaust with some force - other exhaust right behind it.

The rough run would scare me more though.

Will be curious to see what else they put on the paperwork with the fix and what codes it had.

I do have an awesome dealer. They've always brought me a truck and took mine back when needed.

Got it back yesterday evening. I asked about any other damage from raw gas running through the cat. They told me everything looked on but they couldn't be sure how much gas had been through it. I drove it home with no issues.

Glad everything worked out. Just a heads up to some that may not know, a blinking check engine light indicates a missfire and means pull your *** over right then and stop the motor to prevent damage to cats or starting a fuel fire.

Not really my owners manual says:

"If the light is blinking, engine misfire is
occurring which could damage your
catalytic converter. Drive in a moderate
fashion (avoid heavy acceleration and
deceleration) and have your vehicle
serviced immediately.
WARNING
Under engine misfire conditions,
excessive exhaust temperatures
could damage the catalytic
converter, the fuel system, interior floor
coverings or other vehicle components,
possibly causing a fire. Have an authorized
dealer service your vehicle immediately.

No where did I see pull your *** over immediately cuz you are about to burst into flames. Just saying
