Default Engine Hours & Idle Hours Question

The gauges in my 2015 5.0 show engine hours of about 1249 and idle hours of 150. Truck only has 54k and we travel with it mostly highway (not my daily driver). I can't seem to find an answer. Is the 150 idle hours separated, or put another way, on top of the 1249 engine hours? Or would my total engine hours, including idle hours, 1399? Sorry if this has been asked. I couldn't find it.

I would assume idle hours are included in total engine hours, even tho they are separated in the screen view. If the engine is running in any manor, it should log into total engine hours, where idle hours are extracted based on some rpm/wheel speed algorithm.

Idle hours are a subset of engine hours.

That is what I consider to be common sense as well BUT I couldn't find a solid answer online. Was wondering.

Either way, you looking at about 10 to 12% idle time.

If I can jump on this question and ask if too many idle hours are bad? is there a percentage that is bad? I am a sales rep and spend lots of time pulled over taking calls and emails.

Just a simple answer: Any engine idle hours are not good for any engine....But what is tooo much....
Having said that only you the owner/buyer can decide what is good (acceptable etc.) !!
You are gonna get an accumulative amt. of idle hours.....Again what is tooo much ??

If what you are doing (pulling over & talking say 5 min or so) then moving on it is probably not doing you much of any noticeable/serious harm...
I would be more concerned if I was to buy a truck that was a work related truck & it idled all day long running warning lights etc. that have an enormous amount
of idle hours (in some cases 8hrs or more a day!!....as in road /construction & service vehicles....
Now that percent info can be calculated & readily seen on the dash ??

Above happens in usually in some ex leased work trucks that are traded in in say within 3 years that have lower mileage but excessive idle hours??
I doubt normal everyday people couldn't even begin to know @ what percentage is too many !!
I would guess anything 30% & higher would start to be considered as getting excessive/abusive to any engine.....Remember that's my guess only !!

I'm a long haul truck driver and often idel over night, 20% idel time is what my employer considers acceptable, past that is excessive. My F150 is somewhere between 15 and 20% from all the remote start time.

Maco is absoulty correct tho, ideling is just a waste of money. Somewheres out there, there is an equasion of x amount of idel hours = x amount of wear from miles.
