Default Engine cover

Good morning,

My son just purchased a 2019 F150 brand new. It has the 2.7 V6 engine. Beautiful truck!

Wondering why they don't come with an engine cover? The engine just looks "exposed" without one.

Cost. And, it's not technically needed (even though it does ugly the engine bay up). In fact, some people remove them to aid engine cooling.

The only reason they put engine covers on them is to cover up their embarrassingly ugly engine. One thing I find strange though is they stick insulation on the underside of them. I took mine off a while ago and surprisingly, it runs fine even without it and it ain't really that ugly. Sure makes it easier to monitor things.

While engine covers might improve an engine bay's looks, they are born of a desire to improve NVH. Ford isn't engineering any covers without there being a dB goal involved.

Yeah, I just noticed this past weekend on my 2.7 while checking the oil. My parents have a 2018 and it has a cover. What about trying to wash it with all the exposed wiring and electrical components. I do understand that everything gets wet when it rains but how would you all go about washing it down to keep clean? Better to power wash or hose it down? I'm kind of scared to spray directly at all the wiring. any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I would refrain from using a pressure washer under the hood. Or do it from a distance to keep from pushing water into wiring harnesses/connectors. I use Simple Green and a water hose for engine cleaning.

I many cases the cover and insulation is to hide engine noise. GM did that with the Gen IV Corvette engines to reduce lifter noise in the cockpit.

Cover or not, this is one quiet running engine

Thanks! I'll try the simple green method next time.
