I'd not even noticed that there was no lighting under the hood. I find that to be very odd in deed..........

I haven't noticed no lighting either, and honestly don't have a need for it.

If for some reason I did, which is unlikely, I would use the mirror spotlights, just push the mirrors forward towards the hood area.

Plus all of my vehicles have a small flashlight in them, truck lighting only works if the battery is charged.

The magnetic tail cap on this one makes it extremely handy...

My old 91 Chevy truck had a decent under hood light that you could remove and use as a trouble light then wind it back up. Too bad its 2016 and something that simple and effective is not standard equipment unless they figure most people call for help than look or work on the issue themselves.

Resurrecting this thread for a bit...

I just ordered an aux fuse block, wires, and some other stuff. A plunger switch is on my list. But then I thought: when I pop the hood, I get a notification on the screen that my hood is ajar. So, there's got to be a switch there somewhere already, yeah?

I haven't looked for it... but does anyone know where it might be?

I took a look this morning. This little guy looks like it might be where I need to tap into for the "hood ajar" status.

It looks like those wires join another bundle and tie into a plug behind the passenger-side headlight. When I pull my grill, I'll get a better look.

Keep us posted! That would be sweet to have an OEM looking solution.

There is an existing hood switch approximately 1/2 way down the driver's side on nearly all F-150s. You can verify this by popping your hood, but not opening it. Then lock the truck. Now open the hood. When the horn is done deafening you, you know there is a switch there.

As to whether that switch is supplying a ground, and whether you can tap it to supply a ground to the lights, I cannot answer.
