Default End of Year Negotiating

If one has a 2016 truck on order that will be ready to pick during the last few days of the year-- what should one do?

The dealer will most assuredly be looking to deliver the vehicle before year end.

Is it common practice to tell the dealer that you're going to wait for the following year to see if the rebates are bigger- so as to encourage the dealer to provide a better discount in exchange for a current year closing?

In over 45 years of purchasing cars....my experience is that everything is negotiable. But, I can't answer your question. My dealership lays it all out from the git go and there is very little left for the salesman to work with. This is the only dealership I know of that works this way...but then again I and I expect most members here don't know what goes on across the country.

I will say that a lot of companies buy new vehicles during the months of November and December for tax write offs if they have had a good year. What I ran into is that 2015 models were getting few and far between if you were choosy at all with regard to color and options. M1911

I'm not sure I understand your question. Wait patiently, I guess and start buying some detailing supplies. Read up on everything you can here regarding that new truck that you will soon have. What did you order? M1911

Is it common practice to tell the dealer that you're going to wait for the following year to see if the rebates are bigger- so as to encourage (extort) the dealer to provide a better discount in exchange for a current year closing?

I'm not a fortune teller; but i'd assume with some dealers in our area having over 180 F-150's on their lot, Ford won't be throwing too many more $$$ in the 2016 model rebate pool.

What would you do if you pull their leash & wait until 1 st week of Jan & you don't even get the incentive you might have now ????

Buying a truck or car is simple, if you can live with the price before haggling then it's all bonus.

Just wait until the Valentines day sale, spring clearance sale, summer savings sale, end of school sale, 4th of July sale, etc etc etc.

I'd buy the truck in 2016, less the $500 incentive that was offered in 2015.

I don't suspect that Ford's going to replace the only generic and minimal incentive they're offering with a lesser incentive.

I'm willing to gamble the 2015 incentive of $500 on the expectation that the 2016 incentive will be at least the same.

Further, my willingness to wait until 2016 to take delivery could stimulate the dealer to offer me a bigger discount so that I agree to take delivery in 2015.

He gave you info that he had and some advice. Want better info, suggest trying to negotiate with dealer direct and seeing what you can come up with.

Paralysis by analysis, thread after thread without making a decision. Seems to run here.
