Honestly wait about three more years to ask this question. By then many 3.5TTs will have enough miles on them to make a truly honest judgement and the 2.7 will have some real life road time to judge it by. The 2.7 is just too new of an engine to seriously appraise at this point. On paper and by the first impressions it looks good but give it some time to sort itself out. The 3.5TT is a good motor and has had a few bumps but nothing too serious.

I guess I should have be more clear. I meant the specs for your vehicles (ie; 4x4, gear ratio, primary usage (meaning toy hauler, work truck, family vehicle, grocery getter, etc.). I throughly read the FoMoCo specs. Just tryin to get a feel for what folks are doing with engine selection while ordering/ purchasing they're '15's. Thanks all!

Wouldn't the bigger of the two always be better?

The 3.5L according to Fords website is only $1200 more than the 2.7L. Being as the 3.5L has 40 more HP and 45 more TQ that seams to be a no brainer to me.

I am wondering about their not being enough power in the 2.7 to keep good gas mileage, in a 4x4 screw.

When you look at a 4x4, the highway mileage is the same for the 3.5 and the 2.7 ecos.

With the weight loss on the 2015's the power to weight ratio of the 2.7 is pretty much the same as the 3.5 in the 2014's. My 2014 XLT weighs approx 5600 lbs if you assume a similar equipped 2015 weighs 5000 lbs the numbers are almost identical :

2014 3.5L EB Screw 4x4 (5600 lbs)
65.2 hp/1000lb
75 lb/ft /1000lb

2015 2.7L EB Screw 4x4 (5000 lbs assumed)
65 hp/1000lb
75 hp/1000lb

This is why I will be looking at a 2.7EB in my next truck, it will be more than capable for my needs. Obviously I assumed 5000lb for the 2015 but I think that should be pretty close, a 2014 302a has basically the same options as a 2015 301a.
