Default ECO Mode question

I have about 2300 on my 2018 S with the 3.5 engine.. I have the 10 spd. transmission with the 4 modes on the transmission. I have driven mostly in the "normal" mode and have switched to the ECO mode a few times. I have don't notice much. if any difference in the way it shifts. My question is the ECO mode mainly for highway usage or town or both?
Any ideas or suggestions or just keep driving in the normal mode in town and highway if it doesn't make any noticeable difference in fuel economy.
Thanks for looking.

I would wager that if you are going to use eco, you should use it in town, highway, pretty much any time you are not towing.

It's not likely to make much difference if I had to guess. It will probably up shift a little earlier than it would in normal and probably be more reluctant to downshift. It probably makes the throttle pedal programming less aggressive in effort to get the driver to accelerate slower.

Id say to notice a real difference you would need to hand calculate long term. Like find you average for two full tanks of gas in normal mode hand calculated. Then find your average for two tanks of gas in Eco hand calculated and see if there is any noticeable difference.

If it doesn't make any difference either way, then it doesn't matter which you use.

I like ECO mode on the freeway when on cruise control. Seems less aggressive speeding up as traffic speeds up.

I also use it in city driving. I have passed the age where I need or want to drive aggressively. Driving in the mountains, l do love the sport mode.

I used eco mode when I first got my 2028 5.0, I took it in for service and they found my CEL on.( It had been coming on and going off periodically). They ran a diagnostic and found that it had been misfiring on two cylinders; I started running in normal and had no further troubles.

Eco mode maximizes fuel economy by dampening throttle and transmission response. When the drivetrain is at constant load, i.e. flat open highway on cruise control, it's not going to make much if any difference.

The different driving "modes" all just change the shift points in the trans schedule. Eco will try to keep it in the highest gear possible and keep the RPMs down to maximize fuel economy. Me personally, I run sport mode unless I am towing. It feels better to me with the 5.0, and it automatically turns off the auto start/stop at lights and such. So then I don't have to worry about forgetting to turn it off. Very rarely am I in NORMAL or even less in ECO
